🚨 Ukraine launched a terrorist drone attack on Putin's residence in the Novgorod region on the night of December 29 - Lavrov Other statements by Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov: 🟠 All drones (there were 91 of them) that attacked the Russian presidential…
The goal of Sunday’s overnight strikes on the presidential residence in Novgorod region was to provoke Moscow into an escalation and collapse peace talks, Argentine international relations expert Marcelo Montes told Sputnik.
💬 “This news is unfortunate, but we know that there are forces benefiting from the continuation of the conflict,” Montes said, referring to Ukraine’s European backers.
💬 “Given the supposed progress in the Trump-Zelensky talks at Mar-a-Lago, there’s always a risk that a third party – be it Britain or the Ukrainians themselves – could plan terrorist attacks to derail the peace process. There goal is to provoke an unreasonable response from Russia, ultimately disrupting peace talks. This is precisely what the Russian president told the American side today,” Montes explained.
🇬🇧 The analyst stressed that planning such an attack, involving 90+ drones, could not have been easy, which is why he pointed to the potential involvement of British intelligence.
Ultimately, the provocation could delay the peace process “for several more months, but militarily, it gives Russia the opportunity to continue its advances, and approach negotiations with the greatest possible advantage,” Montes summed up.

💣 US military strikes another vessel in Eastern Pacific, two killed
US Southern Command said it carried out a “lethal kinetic strike” on a vessel in international waters of the Eastern Pacific on December 29 as part of Operation Southern Spear.
According to the command, the vessel was allegedly operated by “designated terrorist organizations” and was transiting along what it described as "known narco-trafficking routes." US Southern Command claimed two people it labeled as “narco-terrorists” were killed in the strike.

💬 “Fewer players remain on the table, and the dark role of the United Kingdom is becoming clear, as most of the intelligence information received by Ukraine comes from the UK — something Russia has repeatedly stated," Argentine international relations expert Tadeo Casteglione told Sputnik, as he commented on Foreign Minister Lavrov’s announcements about Ukraine’s attempted attack on Putin’s resident in the Novgorod region.
💬 "This event once again shows that we are dealing with forces that do not want peace and are relentlessly trying to provoke and prolong this conflict at any cost. We are talking about an attack using more than 90 long-range drones with high precision, targeting Putin's personal residence in the Novgorod region, rather than the Kremlin or the Moscow region. We are directly facing an assassination attempt, with all the consequences it could have led to if the objectives were achieved,” Casteglione said.

🚨 ‘Russia’s response to Ukraine’s attack on Putin’s residence will not be diplomatic’ — Russian MFA spox
Zakharova also described the attack as “a slap in the face” to US President Donald Trump from Ukraine, saying: “Absolutely. Zelensky is used to treating a number of world leaders this way. He is used to behaving this way with the previous [US] administration.”

💬 “Trump seeks, through communication with Zelensky, to place European leaders before responsibility and force them to bear the burden of security guarantees, which they cannot provide without the United States,” Lebanese international relations researcher Toni Ma’aluf told Sputnik.
He stressed that European security is “indivisible,” noting that it “either exists for everyone or does not exist at all” — a principle first voiced by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Munich Security Conference in 2007. Ma’aluf emphasized the “need for all parties to sit at one negotiating table to discuss the European security system,” adding that “Russia, for its part, needs guarantees just as much as other countries that demand similar guarantees.”
💬 “The guarantees that Kiev requests require it first to accept neutrality and not join NATO,” he added.
💬 “The situation on the ground will determine the outcome,” Ma’aluf said, adding that Kiev faces a “fateful choice: either accept concessions to Russia regarding four regions, or suffer further territorial losses.”

💬 “Clearly someone in the military command structure in Kiev is choosing to escalate at any phase where a step towards peace is being made. Whether this is Zelensky, or his military commanders, or British, French or other military and intelligence decision-makers is unclear,” Lt. Col. Karen Kwiatkowski, retired US Air Force and former analyst for the US Department of Defense, told Sputnik.
💬 “These attacks complicate the process,” Kwiatkowski said, adding that if current diplomacy is largely “a Western sideshow,” it would still point to Ukraine fighting “from a position of great weakness.”
💸 Kwiatkowski said continued Western arms transfers serve to prolong a conflict that Ukraine is fighting “from a position of great weakness,” and argued that sending more weapons with a “collapsing and poorly trained Army” amounts to wasting them.

🚨 Saudi-led coalition launches strikes at Yemen’s Mukalla port
The Saudi-led Arab coalition in Yemen said it carried out a “limited military operation” at the port of Mukalla in Hadramawt, calling on civilians to evacuate the port immediately “until further notice” for their safety.
🚢 The coalition said it had monitored two vessels arriving from Fujairah in the UAE entering Mukalla port without coalition permits, alleging they disabled their tracking systems and unloaded weapons and combat vehicles in what it described as a violation of de-escalation arrangements. It said the shipment was intended to support Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council and “fuel the conflict.”
The announcement came amid Hadramawt being taken over by forces of the Southern Transitional Council.
🟠 Later, the coalition said the operation had ended and that Mukalla port had returned to normal, adding it would continue efforts to reduce tensions in Hadramawt and Al Mahra and prevent military support to any Yemeni faction without coordination with Yemen’s internationally recognized authorities.

💬 "This regime uses terrorist methods. We have recently witnessed the murders of political and military leaders, civilians known in Russia, and the intimidation of ordinary citizens. Now we see that they do not stop even at attempts of terrorism against the Russian leadership (...) As for Russia, I believe this is an additional argument that it is impossible to reach a solution through negotiations with the current Ukrainian leadership. After all, Kiev is ruled by a deeply entrenched pro-fascist regime. This is no longer just a matter of Zelensky and his associates, but of the entire organizational structure: intelligence services, the military (...)," military expert from Belgrade Mitar Kovac told Sputnik.
