💰 Japan rebuffs EU scheme on frozen Russian assets

Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama ruled out using the roughly $30 billion worth of Russian assets due to legal concerns, two EU diplomats told media.

Several officials claim, however, that Japan’s stance aligns with the objections of its ally, the US, to the move.

👉 At the G7 meeting, the US indicated it will end support for Ukraine after completing the final installments of a 2024 G7-wide loan negotiated by the Biden administration, according to one EU diplomat.

Responsibility for the possible seizure of Russian assets will be shared by individuals and entire countries, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

📍 The 2025 National Security Strategy (NSS) may look softer on paper, recasting China from a “threat” into a “near-peer competitor” with seeming potential to “reshape” US-China relations, Dr. John Gong, economics professor at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, tells Sputnik.

But that is just a thin veneer of peaceful “palliatives,” according to China expert Jeff J. Brown.

👉 In reality, US allies “Japan, Taiwan, Philippines and Australia, are being armed for confrontation, and a hot war is still likely in the next 2-3 years,” says Brown, who is also founder of Seek Truth From Facts Foundation.

▫️ Russia's Air and Space Forces, together with China's People's Liberation Army Air Force, have completed a joint air patrol over the Asia-Pacific region. The patrol, featuring Russian Tu-95MS strategic bombers and Chinese H-6K bombers, lasted about 8 hours, covering the Sea of Japan, East China Sea, and parts of the Pacific.
