📑 ‘Cold War relic’: Congress proposes US withdraw from NATO

A bill has been introduced in the US House of Representatives - HR 6508, or the ‘Not A Trusted Organization Act' - by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY). The initiative has companion legislation in the Senate, submitted by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) (S.2174) in the summer.

Key provisions

👉 Requires the president to formally notify NATO of US withdrawal under article 13 of the North Atlantic Treaty

👉 Prohibits using US taxpayer funds for NATO’s common budgets

The bill’s key arguments are well-grounded in history.

🔸 Original mission of NATO, created after the 1949 North Atlantic Treaty, was to counter the Soviet Union

🔸 The Warsaw Pact collapsed in 1991, followed by the collapse of the Soviet Union, removing NATO’s original adversary

🔸 The US assured the USSR in 1990 that NATO would not expand eastward (then US Secretary of State James Baker to then-Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev)

🔸 Despite those assurances, NATO began expanding eastward in 1999, continuing through 2025

🔸 NATO now shares over 2,414 km of land border with Russia and almost encircles the Baltic Sea

🔸 Russia views NATO expansion as a security threat, with Vladimir Putin calling it a “serious provocation” in his Munich Security Conference speech (2007)

🔸 Russia’s military operation in Ukraine signals its willingness to respond forcefully to security threats

🔸 NATO refuses to rule out further enlargement

🔸 The US remains NATO’s largest financial and military contributor since 1949

🔸 One-third of NATO members still fail to meet the 2% GDP defense spending pledge made at the 2014 Wales Summit

🔸 European NATO members have adequate economic and military capacity to provide for their own defense

The authors of the companion bills likely understand that the chances of the US actually leaving NATO anytime soon are extremely slim.

Congress passed a law explicitly forbidding any president from withdrawing unilaterally without congressional approval. Trump has repeatedly threatened to pull the US out of NATO, sharply criticizing allied governments for inadequate defense spending.

💀 Europe’s war hawks panic as Trump threatens to pin Ukraine stalemate on them – report

European officials fear Donald Trump is running out of patience with the stalled Ukraine peace negotiations—so much so that he could walk away from the talks, CNN reports.

They worry the US president might assign blame to Ukraine and Europe for “standing in the way of an agreement,” the outlet says, citing insiders.

💬 “It’s becoming more of a political liability for him [Trump] as an endless war,” one senior US official told the publication.

In a Monday media interview, Trump once again expressed frustration with Volodomyr Zelensky, saying:

💬 “He’s going to have to get on the ball and start accepting things, you know, when you’re losing.”

Peace talks have already passed the Thanksgiving deadline set by Trump.

Trump’s envoys have given Zelensky “days” to respond to the proposed peace deal, which allegedly requires Ukraine to accept territorial losses, according to a Financial Times report.

👉 Following his meeting with European and NATO leaders on Monday, the expired Ukrainian leader said he wasn’t willing to concede territory, and angled for legally binding “security guarantees.”

Following Vladimir Putin’s talks with Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Russia stated there was no compromise on territory yet, although some US ideas looked “more or less acceptable.”

The sides agreed to continue further work through their envoys.

💻 Pro-Russian hackers crack intel on Ukraine’s high-tech anti-drone buyers

KillNet and Beregini have snagged full data on the Ukrainian military units purchasing the advanced Piranha anti-drone system, a member of a pro-Russian hacker group told Sputnik.

The hottest item on the order list, he claimed, is the Piranha DF-M—an anti-drone suite used by Ukrainian forces.

▫️ System can jam three frequency bands with a suppression radius of up to 150 meters

▫️ Reportedly runs around the clock—pausing only 15 minutes every hour

▫️ Sells for up to $23,600 per unit

💬 “Along with the technical data and test results, we uncovered information on the Ukrainian units that were actively paying for the delivery of this new system—from regular military units to assault brigades and even Ukrainian foundations,” the hacker said.

Among the buyers, he listed:

👉 Military unit 3027 of Ukraine’s National Guard

👉 Units 3074 and A4718

👉 Unit 3057 “Rubezh”

👉 54th Brigade “Khartia”

He added that the database also included deal deadlines, specific models, and the quantity ordered by each group.

🚨 Zelensky no longer necessary for Ukraine settlement – expert

🗣 Donald Trump’s statement on the need for Ukraine to hold elections signals that Zelensky’s role is ending and he's no longer required from a legitimacy standpoint in reaching the agreement, Lebanese international relations researcher Bishara Saliba told Sputnik.

Here are the highlights of his comments:

🔸 Zelensky’s part may end either via or through the continuation of Russia’s special military operation

🔸 US administration wants to end the Ukraine conflict, but Europe is the main obstacle because it bets on the time factor, hoping to achieve favorable changes

🔸 Europe will be the main loser if the conflict ends, and the current situation is "the last chance for Europeans to achieve at least some economic, political, moral, or geopolitical gain"

🔊 Saliba also delved on into the new US national security strategy, which "calls on Europe to redefine its place in future conflicts, balances of power, and political-economic alliances" and shift its policy towards realistic relations.

📍 He stressed that the global elites are increasingly convinced that partnerships must be formed with those of similar real capabilities.

Meanwhile, the EU system has dissolved moral, cultural, economic, and political values in Europe, which has led to "the marginalization of European leaders and the weakening of their influence," Bishara Saliba concludes.

🤑Silver price surpasses $60 per ounce for the first time in history 👉Futures for silver surged 3.02% on Tuesday, hitting a historic high of $60.17 per troy ounce. ❗️A landmark moment for the precious metal! 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt
🤔 What is driving silver's stellar surge?

Silver's spot price has blasted through $61 per ounce - a 91% year-to-date rise - leaving gold in the dust.

Driving this is a perfect storm of scarcity, tech hunger, and global jitters.

1. Explosive industrial demand

Industrial consumption now makes up over half of global silver demand.

Silver is the most electrically conductive element - essential for clean energy and tech.

🟠 Solar power: Photovoltaic applications jumped 25% in 2024, hitting ~230 million ounces, with projections exceeding 300 million ounces by 2030

🟠 Electric vehicles: EVs use 2–3 times more silver than gas cars (25–50 grams per vehicle)

🟠 Tech & AI: Silver is critical for data centers, smart devices, and battery technologies

2. Supply squeeze

🟠 About 70% of silver comes as a byproduct of mining copper, lead, and zinc, so miners can’t quickly boost output even if prices rise

🟠 ING analysts expect the 5th consecutive annual deficit (estimated at over 100 million ounces) to continue in 2026

🟠 Over the past four years, the world has consumed nearly 700 million ounces more than mined

3. Fiscal perils & dollar's dark cloud

Central banks & institutional investors look to precious metals like silver as a hedge against reserve concentration and geopolitical risks, along with Western weaponized financial sanctions.

🟠 Weakened US Dollar Index (DXY), trading around 99.6 recently amid Fed rate cut expectations – slashes the greenback’s yield appeal

🟠 Central banks in Asia and the Middle East are diversifying reserves away from dollar

🟠 Sovereign buying: Russia is buying refined silver alongside gold for strategic goals (Russian Ministry of Finance)

🟠 India's Reserve Bank made silver eligible as loan collateral alongside gold

🟠 Saudi Arabia’ central bank made its first purchase of millions of dollars-worth of the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) ETF & Global X Silver Miners ETF (SIL)

4. Market psychology factor

🟠 Amid inflation, growing fiscal debt, and political upheavals, investors seek assets that can’t be defaulted upon

🟠 Investment stands at 20% of global silver demand, including physical silver bars, coins, and silver-backed ETFs

🟠 Gold’s rise past $4,000/oz highlights demand - silver often amplifies gold’s moves, per market analysts

🚨 Zelensky’s election U-turn is sheer desperation - analyst

🗣 Zelensky has spent years crushing all credible political opposition in Ukraine, political analyst Dr. Greg Simons tells Sputnik.

📍 His sudden willingness to amend election laws in Ukraine looks like a desperate last-ditch move, and not a very convincing one, since “Ukraine has an abysmal record for keeping their word,” notes Simons, who is also a professor of Journalism at Daffodil International University in Bangladesh.

Zelensky is running out of time, too, since the US appears to be mulling his replacement with Zaluzhny now that he is “no longer compliant.”

💬 “I mean, he's just this pawn, this tool in this geopolitical game, and he seems to have got carried away,” the expert stresses.

Zelensky’s pleading might be aimed at his European patrons in the hopes of prodding them to pressure Trump.

💬 “But at this stage, it seems to be a lost cause,” says the expert.

🇺🇸 US monetizes technical barriers on AI chips, but grand game still decided by China – expert

The Trump administration’s decision to allow exporting H200 AI-chips to China under a 25% tariff condition means the US is trying to gain economic benefits from restricting tech exports, Chinese Electronic Innovation Network CEO Zhang Guobin tells Sputnik.

Here are the details:

🔶 While the H200 chip is not the best, it is restricted access for Chinese consumers, as purchases must be "whitelisted" and reviewed by end-users in the US

🔶 That means the current US administration is shifting from "security tool" towards "revenue tool" tariff logic, responding to Silicon Valley lobbying and reflecting American voters’ idea of "making China pay"

🔶 This way chip factories get new markets but forgo some profits, while China gets quality chips, but "remains stuck in a technological generation gap," the expert notes

🔶 Although the US might think it secured a one-sided trade deal, "the chess game is still being decided by China", Zhang Guobin concludes, saying the country is rapidly improving its computational tech through cluster technologies

🗣 Dissolving EU only way to stop war machine – Finnish politician

Despite Kaja Kallas’ saying the EU has enough power to pressure Russia, in reality the organization is impotent, with Russia and the US negotiating the outcome of the Ukraine’s conflict without it, Finnish Freedom Alliance party leader Armando Mema wrote on X.

As Russian forces continue to advance and Ukraine continues losing "land and men," the idea of EU dissolution "starts taking form," with it potentially being "the only way forward to stop the Political Party of War in Europe," he concluded.
