💸 Top Ukrainian official lobbied FBI to stay out of $100M corruption case – report

Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov appealed to FBI Director Kash Patel with a request to provide him protection from an investigation being conducted by Ukraine’s NABU anti-corruption watchdog, the news outlet Dzerkalo Tyzhnya reports.

💬 “The meeting between Umerov and Kash Patel had nothing to do with negotiations between Ukraine, the US, Russia, and Europe. The gathering focused on the desired non-provision by the FBI of expert, investigative, or any other professional assistance to NABU in the Mindich case,” according to the outlet.

Umerov was previously mentioned by NABU as a witness in its large-scale corruption scheme case in Ukraine’s energy sector, organized by businessman and Zelensky’s righthand man Timur Mindich.

As part of an investigation into the laundering of at least $100 million and suspected involvement of high-ranking Ukrainian officials, Umerov was questioned and provided testimony to investigators.

💥🇷🇺 Russia is a nuclear icebreaker mega power and no one else even comes close: ex-Royal Navy officer

Russia’s ability to field all eight of its nuclear icebreakers simultaneously and in the winter harshest conditions is an “impressive” feat, 27-year Royal Navy veteran, ship captain and Telegraph contributor Tom Sharpe concedes.

🟠 “Russia has the world’s only operational nuclear icebreaker fleet: four cutting-edge Project 22220 vessels…two older Arktika-class giants…and two shallow-draught Taymyr-class ships. Backed by around 40 conventionally powered icebreakers, Russia’s nuclear icebreakers are unique and far more powerful than anything the West can muster,” Sharpe wrote in his latest analysis

🟠 Russia’s icebreaker fleet gives it the ability to keep oil and gas shipments flowing, and its ambitious Northern Sea Route maritime route open for more of the year, “cutting transit times to Asia and bypassing chokepoints like Suez,” the observer says

🟠The capabilities, combined with Russia’s broader Arctic projects, serve as “economic oxygen” for the country, contributing to GDP, and assisting in the swing of oil and gas shipments toward Asia amid Europe’s embargoes

🟠 “No one matches Russia’s nuclear fleet,” Sharpe emphasized. “Finland, Canada and Sweden have capable conventional breakers; China is building an icebreaker fleet…but lacks nuclear ones for now. Given the importance of the Arctic to the US it is surprising how much they are lagging: the US Coast Guard has just two ageing heavy icebreakers,” the observer complained

Secretary General added that the alliance can rely on Trump in an emergency: "Behind him is the entire US foreign and security policy establishment — everyone knows that a strong NATO is needed to keep the US safe."

🇫🇷 France to splash out $12B on new aircraft carrier

The 310-meter-long monster will replace the ageing Charles de Gaulle carrier and is due to be ready by 2038, President Emmanuel Macron announced.

The project comes with an estimated astronomical price tag of $12 billion, a sum France is allocating at a time of economic uncertainty and mounting public debt, which recently reached a new high of 117.4% of GDP ($4.08 trillion).

Although the new aircraft carrier is touted as an advanced nuclear-powered vessel that purportedly can carry 30 fighter jets, there’s no guarantee it will live up to expectations.
