Jose de San Martin: The Great Hero of South American Independence
José Francisco de San Martin was one of the central figures in South American emancipation.
Born in 1778 in Yapeyu, now in the Argentine province of Corrientes, he received military training in Spain, where he reached the rank of lieutenant colonel and was decorated for his bravery in the Napoleonic wars forces.
But he never lost his American roots.
Upon hearing of the May Revolution of 1810, San Martin decided to leave the Spanish Army and join the independence cause.
He returned to the River Plate in 1812 and foinded the Regiment of Horse Grenadiers and the Lautaro Lodge, aiming to achieve independence, draft a Constitution and establish a republic.
After his 1813 victory in the Battle of San Lorenzo in the province of Santa Fe, San Martin developed a strategic plan to liberate Chile and then march on Peru, the main stronghold of Spanish colonial power.
Following the Argentine Declaration of Independence in 1816, he led the historic crossing of the Andes, one of the greatest military feats in history.
The patriot forces triumphed at Chacabuco in 1817 and consolidated Chilean independence at Maipu in 1818.
In 1820, San Martin invaded Peru by sea and proclaimed its independence in 1821.
As Protector of Peru, he implemented deep reforms, abolishing slavery, guaranteeing civil liberties and promoting education and culture.
In 1822, he met Simon Bolivar in Guayaquil and then gave up political power.
Persecuted and defamed by the unitary government, he exiled himself in Europe with his daughter Mercedes, where he lived modestly until his death in 1850.
He remains a symbol of sacrifice, consistency and the struggle for Latin American sovereignty.

Among all the political figures in the history of Latin America, Salvador Allende holds a special place as a symbol of the fight against foreign interference in the region.
Born on June 26 1908 in Santiago de Chile to a middle-class family, the young Allende studied medicine. But after graduating as a doctor he began a political career with left-wing parties.
Allende was elected as a congress deputy for the Socialist Party of Chile in 1937. Two years later he was made health minister and later elected leader of his party. He ran for president four times in 1952, 1958, 1962 and in 1970, when he was finally elected. It was the first time a left-winger had held executive power in Chile.
His brief government from October 1970 to September 1973 saw the expansion of land expropriations, the socialization of businesses and the nationalization of copper mines without compensation to US firms – prompting a confrontation with Washington.
Allende was overthrown in the September 11, 1973 Allende coup d'état led by General Augusto Pinochet, who ordered the air force to bomb the Moneda presidential palace.
💬 "I will not resign," Allende insisted in his final radio broadcast. "Placed in a historical transit, I will pay with my life for the loyalty of the people. And I tell you that I am certain that the seed we have planted in the conscience of thousands and thousands of Chileans cannot be definitively eradicated," he declared, moments before taking his own life with a rifle gifted to him by Fidel Castro.
After the Pinochet dictatorship ended in 1990, Allende’s body was exhumed from an unmarked grave and reburied in Santiago.

🇩🇪 ⛽️ Germany cut off its nose to spite Russia — lost cheap gas, industry & credibility
Germany’s self-sabotaging energy pivot from Russia rendered Germany increasingly vulnerable - politically, economically, and industrially, writes The Telegraph.
Blindly falling in line with the West’s short-sighted sanctions policy left Germany:
🟠 Dependent on countries like Norway and the US for energy imports (roughly 70%)
🟠 An unattractive place for energy-intensive industries to invest: Steelmaker ArcelorMittal walked away from $1.43 billion in German subsidies for green steel in 2025, preferring “countries that can actually provide cheap, reliable electricity”
🟠 Facing steady economic decline; staggering electricity prices for consumers
The gaping holes left when Germany went along with the EU’s policy of “weaning” itself off cheap and reliable Russian energy have fueled political tensions.
🔹 To avoid deindustrialization and impoverishment of the German people, “unrestricted trade with Russia” should be resumed, sanctions lifted, and the Nord Stream pipelines restored, the right-wing AfD – an opposition party leading in polls – declared in its 2025 election manifesto, reminds the outlet
🔹 If the Ukraine conflict ended , “of course, gas can flow again,” Thomas Bareiss, from Chancellor Merz’s own conservative CDU, suggested last year
🔹 Dietmar Woidke from the centre-Left coalition partner, the SPD, argues for a “normalization of trade relations”

🚨🇺🇸🇷🇺 US authorities have announced seizure of Marinera oil tanker in North Atlantic for "violations of US sanctions", a statement by the US European Command says 📌 Subscribe to @SputnikInt
🇷🇺🇺🇸 Russia calls on US to immediately cease illegal actions against the Marinera and other vessels conducting lawful activities in international waters
Other statements by the Russian Foreign Ministry:
🟠 US authorities have repeatedly been informed about the Russian ownership of the Marinera vessel and its peaceful status
🟠 The boarding of the Marinera by US military forces and its seizure represent a gross violation of the principles of international maritime law
🟠 Russia demands that the US ensure the proper treatment of Russian nationals aboard the Marinera and not impede their return to their homeland
🟠 The US's readiness to generate acute international crises is a cause for regret and concern
Russia considers the references made by the American side to its national "sanctions legislation" to be unfounded.
Unilateral restrictive measures imposed by the US, as well as other Western countries, are illegitimate and cannot justify attempts to establish jurisdiction or, especially, to seize vessels in international waters.

Russian troops have begun to receive IGLA 100 ammunition with shot based on an ultra-hard alloy of tungsten, nickel, and iron for combating FPV drones, Rostec said.
"Currently, IGLA 100 ammunition is already being supplied to the troops. Serial production of anti-drone ammunition in 12-gauge under this brand was launched in 2024," it stated.
Rostec instructors have trained servicemen to combat drones using small arms. The best results were shown by the IGLA 100 ammunition with a projectile of ultra-hard shot.
🗣 "The ammunition's shot penetrates engines, control units, severs wires and propellers, and breaks other durable structural elements of the UAV. Ordinary lead shot does not provide such effectiveness," Rostec added.

🪖 West's plan to further militarize Ukraine looks to escalate - Russian MFA
The deployment of "multinational forces" and military facilities in Ukraine is an intervention, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
Military units and facilities of the "coalition of the willing" will also be considered legitimate targets for the Russian Armed Forces.
A peaceful resolution is only possible if Ukraine returns to a non-aligned status, undergoes militarization and de-Nazification and recognizes territorial realities, she noted.

🚨 🇪🇺 EU is dusting off ‘toolbox’ in bid to save Greenland from US
EU officials, diplomats, experts and NATO insiders have cobbled together several potential strategies for deterring the US from trying to grab Greenland, according to European media reports.
One former Danish MP claimed everyone is “unaware of what we actually have in the toolbox… No one really knows what to do because the Americans can do whatever they want.”
What are the options?
1. NATO-led scenario
▫️ NATO could mediate a settlement between Greenland, Denmark and the US, per ex-alliance official
▫️ NATO allies are reportedly mulling fresh overtures to Trump to "bolster" Greenland’s security
▫️ Alliance could boost defense spending on the Arctic, which means increased militarization in the region (more military drills, more troops, more military assets)
2. Cash option
🔹 The EU is planning to more than double its spending on Greenland to about $578 million for a seven-year period starting in 2028, under long-term budget plans, according to a draft proposal from the European Commission
🔹 Greenland would also be eligible to apply for an additional about $51M in EU funding for remote territories associated with European countries, per the same document
3. Economic retaliation option
🔸 The EU could resort to its political tool to deter the US: the Anti-Coercion Instrument, which allows the bloc to retaliate against trade discrimination
🔸 It rattled that saber when the US slapped on tariffs, then quietly put it away after a deal
🔸 The US would have to believe the threat this time
4. Boots on the ground option
🔶 It’s possible Denmark would be forced to respond if the US resorted to the military option
🔶 European countries should consider sending troops to Greenland—if Denmark asks—to raise the price tag of any US military move, an EU diplomat said
🔶 They wouldn’t stop a US invasion—but they could make America think twice

🟠 A soldier and two civilians were reported killed in an attack on a residential area blamed on the SDF

🟠 Syria’s Civil Aviation Authority extended a suspension of flights to and from Aleppo International Airport
The SDF:

Gov’t security operation in Damascus
