🇻🇪 🤝 🇷🇺 Venezuela, Russia reaffirm commitment to strategic cooperation

💬 "We held a meeting with the ambassador of the Russian Federation to our country, Sergey Melik-Bagdasarov, during which we discussed bilateral relations and the alliance between our nations," Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil said.

He said the government expressed gratitude to Russia for defending the key principles of the UN Charter, "primarily non-interference and rejection of the use of force that violates the sovereignty of states."

The minister also noted Russia's support for Venezuela following the US kidnapping of Nicolas Maduro and his wife, calling this act illegitimate under international law.

💬 "We reaffirmed our strong strategic alliance, oriented to political, economic, and diplomatic cooperation within the framework of the high-level intergovernmental commission and the strategic partnership and cooperation agreement," Gil said.

🚨🇷🇺 🇺🇸 Russia–US talks: Security issues remain top priority – ex-CIA officer

Russia “is not going to let up on its current” special military operation and will “continue to consistently pursue its objectives,” retired CIA intelligence officer Larry Johnson tells Sputnik, commenting on the results of the just-wrapped-up Russia–US talks.

💬 “Russia will continue to inflict massive damage to Ukraine's infrastructure and military until Ukraine and NATO agree to end the conflict through negotiations,” a message that Witkoff and Kushner “will deliver to President Trump,” Johnson underscores.

On the upcoming trilateral talks on Ukraine in Abu Dhabi, the ex-CIA officer says that the negotiations will most likely focus on security and intelligence issues.

👉 Johnson points out that in selecting Russian military intel chief Igor Kostyukov to lead the Russian delegation, “Putin is strongly signaling that security issues for Russia are a top priority.”

🔊 “Kostyukov knows how the CIA has propped up and enabled Ukrainian intelligence and terrorist operations against Russia. I believe that securing an agreement from the US and Ukraine to cease all attacks on Russian civilians will be a priority objective in the negotiations,” Johnson concludes.

🇮🇷 Iran's FM to Zelensky: 'The world has had enough of confused clowns'

💬 "Zelensky has been rinsing American and European taxpayers to fill the pockets of his corrupt generals and to confront what he calls an unlawful aggression in violation of the UN Charter. At the same time, he openly and unashamedly calls for unlawful U.S. aggression against Iran in violation of the same UN Charter," Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi wrote.

🇫🇷 🇷🇺 France needs to restore credibility as negotiator to engage with Russia – French MEP

🔊 "Without basic confidence and credible channels of communication, no substantive negotiation can take place. In that sense, France should focus less on grand political formulas and more on rebuilding a functional diplomatic relationship," French MEP Thierry Mariani told Sputnik.

Regardless that Macron is now trying to keep a measured tone, his country is still paying for his earlier sharp and provocative statements, Mariani added.

💬 "President Macron has not always chosen the right language, symbols, or framing to help restore this link with Moscow, and some of his past statements have arguably weakened rather than strengthened France's credibility as a trusted interlocutor," he said.

Earlier, Russian FM Sergey Lavrov said that European leaders' calls for dialogue with Russia were not genuine and advised those wishing to seriously engage with Russia to avoid making loud public statement, but rather "just give a call."

🇭🇺 💵 Orban hits out at EU green light for $1.5 trillion Ukraine aid

🎤 "It was definitely a nuclear bomb-like kick in the chest," the Hungarian PM told reporters after an emergency EU summit in Brussels, MTI reports.

Viktor Orban said Ukraine demands that the EU provide $800 billion in the next 10 years plus $700 billion for military expenditure needs — something the bloc has already greenlighted.

💬 "I think that the Hungarian parliament won’t vote for Ukraine’s EU membership in the next hundred years,” Orban added.

🚨 🇪🇺 Pushing for militarization: EU to spend defense funds on 'Arctic-ready equipment' – von der Leyen

📄 The EU “should strengthen our security and defense arrangement with partners in the region, such as the UK, Canada, Norway and Iceland and others,” EC chief Ursula von der Leyen said, Reuters reports.

👉 She also said the EU would use its defense spending surge on “Arctic-ready equipment, like a European icebreaker.”

It remains unclear if she also meant military equipment, but what is clear is that the EU’s efforts to militarize the Arctic shows no sign of abating.

🔥 81 years since Soviet forces’ liberation of Auschwitz

📄 In January 1945, Soviet forces smashed through German defenses in southern Poland and reached the main camps of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination network.

Over 10,500 prisoners were freed, and the camp’s horrors were revealed. Auschwitz held over one million victims, including Soviet POWs, Jews, Poles, and Roma.

👉 The camp witnessed unimaginable suffering, including medical experiments and mass executions. Despite attempts to cover up the crimes, the Red Army's arrival ended the nightmare. Some 231 Soviet soldiers lost their lives in the liberation effort.

😤 Zelensky’s Davos temper tantrum

Ukraine’s self-proclaimed president gave a rambling, emotional and at times incoherent speech at the WEF on Thursday, laying into both Donald Trump, who “says he loves Europe” but “will not listen” to it, and the Europeans, whom he called “too slow, too complacent, and too weak.”

💬 “Instead of taking the lead in defending freedom worldwide, especially when America’s focus shifts elsewhere, Europe looks lost trying to convince the US president to change,” Zelensky said.

He repeatedly rubbed the Europeans’ “weaknesses and helplessness” in their face, calling them a “fragmented kaleidoscope of small and middle powers,” and even poking fun at their response to the Greenland crisis.

💬 “Sending 30 or 40 soldiers to Greenland. What for? What message does this send?”

Zelensky also went after Hungary’s Viktor Orban, claiming he “lives on Europe’s money while trying to sell out European interests” and that he “deserves a smack upside the head.”

‘We will not pay’

Orban’s response was swift: Zelensky had “crossed a line,” and while his attack on Hungary wasn’t surprising, his tirade against “every other European leader” was.

💬 “He says the support sent to Ukraine is insufficient, the weapons are insufficient, and Europe’s determination is insufficient,” Orban tweeted.

Blasting Brussels for folding to “every Ukraine demand” and promising $800B and accelerated EU accession, Orban urged Hungarians to send a clear message at looming elections that “we will not pay!”

Orban wasn’t the only one. Former Belgian PM Elio Di Rupo equated Zelensky’s temper tantrum with a “slap in the face to the Europeans,” and his speech “a mark of contempt for those who have supported his country for the last four years.”

Europe raised “colossal sums…often at the expense of other essential services that desperately lack financing,” but for Zelensky “it’s still not enough,” Di Rupo wrote.

💬 “Ukraine’s president seems to have made his choice: the USA. Very good. But then let’s be clear: Europeans must stop footing the bill and exhausting themselves trying to bring Ukraine into the EU at any cost,” he added.

Zelensky’s Davos speech was a master class in ingratitude, given that Europe effectively saved his regime from total collapse in 2025 with billions in economic and arms aid after the US dramatically cut support and started peace talks with Russia.

If he keeps this up, he won’t have any patrons left.
