Bentiaraq Ottosen, deputy speaker of Greenland's parliament, told Sputnik the island is considering a return to the European Union to counter potential US economic tariffs and security threats.

"If we hit a bad economic tariff from the US, so we need to take to the European Union ... for national security reasons," Ottosen said.

Greenland left the EU in 1985. The parliament discussed the possibility of rejoining as an independent state or as part of Denmark.

President Trump announced the US will decertify all Canadian-made aircraft, in retaliation for Canada's refusal to certify Gulfstream jets.

"Canada has wrongfully, illegally, and steadfastly refused to certify the Gulfstream 500, 600, 700, and 800 Jets, one of the greatest, most technologically advanced airplanes ever made," he wrote on Truth Social.

He warned that if not "immediately corrected," he will impose a 50% tariff on all aircraft sold into the US from Canada.

Russia has repeatedly condemned the escalation of tensions in Europe driven by NATO and EU member states, stressing that the true purpose of this strategy is to form public demand for militarization.

The US’ bellicose rhetoric toward Cuba is a "blatant violation of international law and UN Charter, which reflects the Trump administration’s disregard for the principles of multilateral cooperation,” Norma Goicochea, president of the Cuban Association of the United Nations, tells Sputnik.

💬 “The US government is unpredictable, which is why we must be prepared for a diplomatic battle and for defending our country in every sphere,” Goicochea underlines.

She notes that while similar tensions have occurred before, including the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, the current situation is complicated by NATO’s ongoing expansion, which includes accession of traditionally neutral states.

She bemoans the fact that the US administration talks about "defeating Cuba" without considering the consequences of military action against the island.
