St. Possenti, the Sharp-shooting Saint.

In 1860, after the battle of Castelfidardo, about twenty mercenaries linked to Garibaldi’s army entered the Italian city of Isola, in order to loot and stir things up.
St. Gabriel, still a seminarian, went to meet the bandits, and freed a young woman who was about to be raped.
The religious young man was unarmed, but he was akin to a ninja and he took the guns from the holsters of two mercenaries and killed a gecko several feet away with his surgical sights. Faced with this phenomenal display of aim, the gang got scared and left the city without causing any further inconvenience.

In the 4th Century St. Vincent of Lerins asked what Catholics should do if the entire Church was infected by a novel contagion. He explained that, at such a time, the safe path is to cleave to tradition.

“What then will the Catholic Christian do, if a small part of the Church has cut itself off from the communion of the universal Faith? The answer is sure. He will prefer the healthiness of the whole body to the morbid and corrupt limb. But what if some novel contagions try to infect the whole Church, and not merely a tiny part of it? Then he will take care to cleave to antiquity, tradition, which can never be led astray by any lying novelty. … take the greatest care to hold that which has been believed everywhere, always and by all … We shall hold to this rule if we follow universality, antiquity, and consent. We shall follow universality if we acknowledge that one Faith to be true which the whole Church throughout the world confesses; antiquity if we in no wise depart from those interpretations which it is clear that our ancestors and fathers proclaimed; consent, if in antiquity itself, we keep following the definitions and opinions of all, or certainly nearly all, Bishops and Doctors alike.”

The worship due to our parents includes the worship given to all our kindred, since our kinsfolk are those who descend from the same parents, according to the Philosopher (Ethic. viii, 12). The worship given to our country includes homage to all our fellow-citizens and to all the friends of our country. Therefore piety extends chiefly to these.
