This note also strongly suggests George signed off on a tainted command selection list without knowing what he was signing, learning about what he did in our reporting-- he set an officer up to get a senior position without merit.
The Army's IG investigation bookends references to our reporting back in March and several other mentions throughout -- effectively saying senior officials took no action on this until we published our initial story.
For the PAOs reading that, that's an admittedly imperfect dataset and doesn't take into account off the record and background engagements, but it is indicative of disengagement from the public.
We can take press conferences as one small example. I looked at my recordings, and the Army did 1 media engagement every 3 weeks on average between 2021 and 2023, which went to 1 engagement of note on average every 14 weeks in 2024. So, it's getting worse.

Solid. The Army has totally ceded the information space, this includes social media and the press - and thus, there's no communication with "the soldier," or a means for them to know what's going on.

This is a follow-up to a larger story I worked on with @kelsbbaker last year. The Army's recruiting woes are almost entirely attributable to men and the complicated societal problem of males falling behind in education, among other issues.
This gives the Trump administration enormous momentum but also takes away their ability to claim credit -- there's no evidence that who is president plays a role in a statistically relevant way. But conservatives, including Hegseth, have blamed cultural grievances.
Duty station of choice is also hot, the top choice being Ft. Cavazos - but curious how many of those troops would have otherwise not enlisted and whether that's more of a cherry on top kind of thing
