Ohne diese werden ihnen grundlegende Rechte wie der Zugang zu Gesundheitsversorgung, Bewegungsfreiheit, Sozialleistungen, Deutschkursen sowie die Arbeitserlaubnis verwehrt.

we are writing to you today with an urgent plea for support. Bridges over Borders is facing a sudden and critical situation, where, as of June 15th, the group accommodations we have been administering since 2022 will be evicted due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control.

Since we were not yet a registered association with a bank account at the time we were offered to take on these spaces, we needed a partner. We were approached by a large NGO, to be the main tenant in the contract while we continued the ongoing support for everyone living in the group accommodations as well as assuring on-time rent payments and upkeep of the premises. A few weeks ago, we were notified by the landlord, that this NGO has not paid thousands of euros of rent, has paid very irregularly and unreliably, not communicating at all, forcing the landlord to sue for immediate eviction, after exercising a lot of patience.

As much as we dislike landlordism in general, this one was more than kind to us. They gave everyone in the group accommodations a rent free period of 6 months, did a lot of renovation to make the spaces more comfortable and suitable for large groups, while being a relatively small, family-owned business, a family once also affected by forced displacement. Through this, we were able to provide low cost homes without a needed deposit, long term contracts with Anmeldung for our community. It is a real shame that we are about to lose this opportunity due to gross neglect.

We are devastated and need your support. 13 people are about to lose their homes in two weeks. While we are trying everything in our power to somehow still alleviate the situation, we have no legal claim toward the main tenant, and there also is barely enough time to act.

Trauma of forced displacement is very real and still very present for our community, and we need to do everything we can to prevent such feelings from coming up again.

Kurzes Update: Das Gespräch mit den Politiker*innen war leider - wir hätten es wissen sollen - praktisch ergebnislos. Niemand ist für irgendetwas zuständig, alle tun ihr Bestes, aber irgendwelche Zusagen kann niemand machen. Für die Betroffenen eine herbe Enttäuschung. Sie sind nun doch ins Erstaufnahmelager. Das Risiko, aus dem Asylverfahren zu fliegen, war ihnen zu groß. Zumindest konnten wir erreichen, dass ihnen keine Konsequenzen für ihren Widerstand drohen - so die (einzig konkrete) Zusicherung...
Morgen gibts noch ein ausführlicheres Update. Der Kampf geht natürlich weiter. Es ist auf jeden Fall sichtbar geworden, dass unsere Freunde bereit sind zu kämpfen und viele Unterstützer*innen haben! Danke Euch allen an dieser Stelle für den massiven Support! 1200 Unterschriften für die Urgent Action in 24 h, das war der Hammer!! Die "betroffenen" Politiker*innen waren stinksauer und haben sich beklagt, dass ihre wertvolle Arbeit von der E-Mail-Flut lahmgelegt wurde 😜
