China and US at odds again — this time over arms sale to Taiwan

China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced sanctions against 10 individuals and 20 American defense companies, including Boeing's St. Louis branch, Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation, and L3Harris Maritime Services, for selling weapons to Taiwan. The sanctions include freezing all assets belonging to these companies and individuals in China and prohibiting Chinese companies from doing business with them. In turn, the United States expressed strong protest.

This move by the Chinese leadership followed Washington's announcement last week of a $11.1 billion arms sale to Taiwan, which is the largest-ever U.S. weapons package for the island.
