Logline: A young Ukrainian woman in New Zealand tries to relocate her mother and sister from Ukraine during the first weeks of the full-scale war that began on February 24, 2022.

The film premiered at Reading Cinemas Dunedin as part of the Dunedin Short Film Screening.

Важный анонс для тех кто ждёт кинопоказ в Крайстчёрче.

Возможно его не будет, по крайней мере в обозримом будущем. И вот почему.

Кинопоказ в Данидине был придуман мной как способ показать мой фильм "Relocation". Я отправил его на 13 кинофестивалей и когда почти все уже отказали и оставалось пару месяцев до отказа оставшихся, я принял решение, что должен показать фильм в настоящем кинотеатре в родном городе фильма и где я сам жил пять лет - в Данидине.

У моей коллеги Bridget Ellis тоже был фильм, который не был нигде показан и я просто предложил взять мой фильм, её фильм, найти ещё несколько других, чтобы составить программу примерно на час, чтобы показать в кинотеатре. Бриджет согласилась и стала соорганизатором. Её выдающаяся роль была в том, что мы общались почти в ежедневном режиме (кроме выходных) как минимум через email, fb или google docs, но часто голосом или встречаясь. Она также привлекла часть людей и подала неплохие идеи. Технически наибольшую часть работы выполнил я. Но её роль куда больше, чем люди могли думать: она мне как бы своим присутствием напоминала, что это всё имеет смысл.

Кроме того, почти каждую субботу я приходил в полдень на Октагон - это стало традицией после начала полномасштабной войны в Украине для антивоенных людей, но в практическом смысле это напоминало скорее не пикет или митинг, а просто встречу друзей, где каждый обменивался новостями, идеями, каждый обсуждал то что считает важным и всегда находились люди кто с интересом слушали. Кроме меня я не знаю там никого кто хотел бы профессионально расти в кино индустрии, однако люди показывали свою заинтересованность. Многие люди из Октагона в 2023 году согласились стать частью фильма "Relocation", а потом в 2024 году я пригласил их в кинотеатр увидеть премьеру фильма, в котором они участвовали. Они пришли вместе с друзьями и семьями.

Dominic Smith, студент в сфере медиа снял обо мне короткую документалку, которую я с его разрешения выложил у себя на канале, там я объясняю свою мотивацию, как по кинопоказу, так и по кинодельчеству в целом. Кроме того, о некоторых деталях подготовки кинопоказа я рассказываю на сессии вопросов и ответов кинопоказа.

Хотя у кинопоказа в Данидине была особая причина, я получил массу удовольствия от его подготовки и проведения. Все 10 недель каждый день я чувствовал что живу. Это ни с чем не сравненное чувство, которое тут же пропало когда из кинотеатра ушёл последний зритель. Наступило опустошение и потом я пытался вернуть это чувство.

Что касается Крайстчёрча, то моя идея была в том, что я возьму свой уже показанный фильм, какие-то другие фильмы и покажу уже в ЧЧ.

Но есть три проблемы:

1. Фильм я позднее выложил в Ютуб. Принял я это решение из-за желания показать всем друзьям кто разбросан по миру, всё же два года прошло с момента съёмок, премьера прошла, время пришло. Да, фильм вполне можно показывать даже если он доступен онлайн, но как собрать достаточно зрителей? На данидинском кинопоказе мы показали два фильма доступных онлайн, но было и две премьеры.

2. Соорганизатор в Крайстчёрче не был найден.

3. В Крайстчёрче еженедельные встречи, где бы можно было свободно общаться, не были найдены.

То есть не понятно, что должно двигать этот проект и другие кинопроекты.

Такие дела.

Решил сообщить поскольку у кого-то из вас могло сложиться впечатление, что сроки определены раз было приглашение в соцсетях и вот-вот всё запустится. Но само по себе "вот-вот" не случится. Мне жаль и я прошу прощения если ситуация существенно хуже ваших ожиданий.

Досмотрел сериал "Американцы" ("The Americans", 2013-2018). Нахожусь под глубоким впечатлением. Не понимаю почему не посмотрел раньше.

I finished watching the series "Adolescence". Impressive acting of all main characters and the great idea behind the project. Also the shooting approach: the series is filmed in a single continuous shot per each 55 minutes episode without cuts. Just seamless storytelling. I wonder how the actors remember everything? Do they act in the theater or see/hear the director's cues?

Recently I acted as a producer for the first time on a film directed by someone else. It was a lot of fun. My team members "A48" and I participated in the 48 Hours Film Festival: about 500 teams across the country were given genres and key elements on Friday evening to make and upload a finished film to the portal by Sunday evening.

We called the film "Scrambled". We had 48 hours to create the story, shoot and edit. This was our first experience and we completed everything on time.

We divided the roles and I concentrated more on producing and organisational work, developed and discussed in detail with the team members the workflow, timing and roles of each. While another team member concentrated more on the creative part: working with actors, and filming on different cameras. It's a great division. Three years ago, when making the film "Relocation", I combined the roles of director and producer. It is quite difficult to combine producing on set and as a director. It's just a different state of mind, two different task categories.

I also recorded sound much more professionally this time than I did three years ago. I had good lavalier microphones this time, I used a special mounting technique to avoid clothing noise, and I monitored the sound in the headphones. I recently bought a wonderful boom mic, but I didn't need it - another time.

A lot of fun was the three-step roll call - what you would hear like "Action!", "Cut!", but we had three lists of special phrases for scenes, shots and takes, all with special functions. I wrote out these three lists and monitored the roll call.

I was also responsible for documents, Health & Safety. The next day after the shooting weekend, as usual, I wrote a report on my work and shared it with the team.

It was a lot of fun to help with the second camera and a little bit with production design.

On Sunday I edited the film. Such a huge break. And it was a lot of fun. I'm already thinking about starting to prepare a new film

🎬 Looking for a Film Producer – Feature Film Silence 🎬

I’m looking for a dedicated producer to be my co-pilot in bringing my future feature film Silence to life.

Tagline:
A war breaks out on another continent, and an international security expert tries to figure out where he went wrong in his optimistic predictions – but there’s only silence around him.
The film is planned to run 60 minutes. Originally I thought it would be a short film, but a careful breakdown of the noscript shows it needs a feature format for the story to breathe.

Proof of Concept
Before we go into full production, I’ll be shooting a proof of concept – one complete scene from the noscript. I’m planning to use one specific scene because it has no spoilers, yet it’s emotional, challenging, and powerful. It involves one actor in one location but requires complex production elements and very precise direction and acting.

This scene will run 5–10 minutes, and it works as a standalone short film with a clear exposition, strong middle, and thought-provoking ending. If it’s shot to the standard I’m aiming for, it could be included unchanged in the final feature.

About Me

I immigrated to New Zealand from Russia in 2020 at the age of 34, having previously lobbied for healthcare, working at university and having engineering and economics&management degrees. However, I wanted to make films from an early age, which was a family taboo.

In 2025, I produced for the first time a project written and directed by someone else – when my team A48 and I joined the 48 Hours Film Festival.

It would be great if you have producing experience – if so, I’d love to see your work. But it’s also fine if you’re just starting out. We could grow together, as long as you’re committed.

I already have a potential actor and location for the proof of concept. For the full feature, the noscript has 19 scenes, 9 locations, 5 speaking roles and ~30 non-speaking roles.

Although I’m the writer and director, I may also be actively involved in some producing elements (funding, distribution, marketing, and festival outreach). But as producer, your vision and input will be central – you should feel free to ask questions at every stage, and I’ll do the same.

I would like to do this project with a combination of funding and profit share - both should be fair for every participant. The noscript of the feature film is under development - I am just expanding the explanation of the current short film noscript and also thinking about expansion of one of the layers (that might increase the quantity of scenes). I would love to hear your thoughts on both in your role of producer - it should be your project as well, not just mine.

I currently live in Christchurch, but lived in Dunedin for 5 years and would be happy to meet people all over the country.
