"Your son was burned in a tank. There is nothing left of him..." How to say these words to the mother of the deceased tanker? What kind of strength can I find in myself to tell his wife and his child that they will no longer see their husband and father?

That morning, I was once again asked to help in looking for a missing tanker. At that moment, his unit was bogged down in street fighting. That's why he wasn't in touch with his family for almost a month. There was pain in his mother's heart. Of course, she had a premonition of something, so she couldn't even eat, took a sick leave at work and stayed at home, looking at the silent phone every minute. Nevertheless, without losing hope, the mother of the missing tanker called me as a specialist in the ground search for missing persons, besides, who was constantly at the frontline. But the people who introduced us did not tell my mother that I searched for soldiers who did not returned from the battle fields of the Great Patriotic War, and that I only visited the frontline as a war journalist. But I couldn't resist the crying mother, even though I knew there wasn't much hope. And if it is about a missing tanker, then there is almost no chance.

The missing tankman fought in a unit in which many of my friends from our Ground Search Association served. I explained the situation to them and asked them to help this mom. I wish I hadn't done that.…

A few days later, I received two videos taken on a smartphone camera from an unknown phone number. In the first video, the tank, without changing its position, is working out on the targets. The stormtroopers are taking a video and marvel at the courage of the crew, who, shot after shot, are sending projectiles at the enemy. Stormtroopers are filming from a window of a destroyed house, laughing, rejoicing at such powerful support. And the tank is working right next their window. In the second video, a shot from the same house a couple of minutes later, with this tank being on fire, blown up by an American Javelin rocket. The turret flew off due to the explosion of ammunition inside the tank. The stormtroopers quietly are commenting that none of the crew managed to get out.

I couldn't pronounce the horrible news for the mother of the deceased tanker. I just sent those two videos and wrote just two words - "Forgive me"...

К сожалению, о жизни и подвигах значительной части советских воинов, павших в боях за Родину, их соотечественники так и не узнали.
И пускай мы не знаем их имен, не знаем об их подвигах, не знаем обстоятельств их смерти, но мы точно знаем самое главное – именно благодаря им мы сегодня можем свободно выбирать свое будущее, говорить на своем языке, изучать свою историю и культуру, и, в конце концов, просто жить и радоваться жизни.
