I have shown it to many friends and comrades in the years since, and watched it with them each time. One of the greatest, most powerful, most important films ever made (Top 10) and THE best war movie ever made. Фильм «Иди и смотри» нам показали в армии. Во время просмотра, в самом начале, как и всегда, солдаты принялись комментировать фрагменты и героев ленты. Отпускали весёлые реплики. Шутки были ровно до того места, когда на экране задёргался широко раскрытый от ужаса глаз коровы, простреленной трассерами. В зале повисла тягостная тишина. Думается, животное не пожалели на съёмках. Было видно, как пули прошивают её. Это была смерть. Нам намерено показали. И мы это увидели.
Когда фильм закончился, все также молча, гремя сапогами, вышли из кинозала, опустив головы. Сказать, что были потрясены - ничего не сказать. Что говорить, про тех, кто видел это воочию.

Решил при этом, что исполнителем центральной роли деревенского паренька Флёры будет не профессиональный актёр, который при погружении в тяжёлую роль мог бы защититься психологически наработанной актёрской техникой, мастерством. Я хотел найти простого мальчика лет четырнадцати. Его надо было готовить к сложнейшим переживаниям, потом зафиксировать их на плёнку. И в то же время защитить его от стрессов (эта система психологической защиты была подробно разработана со специалистами), чтобы не в дурдом его после съёмок сдать, а маме живым и здоровым вернуть. К счастью, с Лёшей Кравченко, сыгравшим в итоге Флёру и ставшим впоследствии хорошим актёром, всё прошло благополучно.
Я понимал, что это будет очень жестокий фильм и вряд ли кто-нибудь сможет его смотреть. Я сказал об этом соавтору сценария - белорусскому писателю Алесю Адамовичу. Но он ответил: «Пусть не смотрят. Мы должны это оставить после себя. Как свидетельство войны, как мольбу о мире».
Работа над картиной началась. У Климова снималось много непрофессионалов - пожилых людей, крестьян, помнивших войну. Съёмочная группа работала как раз в тех местах, где всё это в войну и происходило. Fortunately, with Lyosha Kravchenko, who eventually played Fleur and later became a good actor, everything went well.
I understood that it would be a very violent film and hardly anyone would be able to watch it. I told the co-author of the noscript, the Belarusian writer Ales Adamovich, about this. But he replied: “Let them not look. We must leave this behind. As evidence of war, as a plea for peace."
Work on the painting has begun. Klimov filmed a lot of non-professionals - elderly people, peasants who remembered the war. The film crew worked just in those places where all this happened during the war. Klimov later admitted that he was terribly sorry for these people, who, by his will, had to relive this horror. Once filmed the scene of the burning of the village. Extras - local residents - were herded into a barn. But the desired intensity of emotions could not be achieved. There are 22 sets of multicolored pencils, 34 pencils in each set. There are very high quality, "professional grade" CARAN d'ACHE pencils from Geneva. They were given to us as human aid, for free, they even have "NOT FOR SALE" printed on most of them, but if you wanted to buy them, they're around a dollar each, and some are a good bit more. So it's about $750 worth of upscale art supplies for for the kids here, and who knows?
‼️One of them might just become the new Donetsk Davinci or Donbass Dali‼️ 👍🤠👍
