Google Keeps Chrome Browser but Must Share Search Data
A Washington judge ruled Tuesday that Google won't have to sell its Chrome browser, giving Big Tech a rare win against U.S. antitrust officials, but ordered the company to share search data with competitors to boost online competition.
Alphabet shares jumped 7.2% in after-hours trading as investors welcomed the ruling, which also lets Google continue making profitable payments to Apple that regulators claimed blocked search rivals. Apple shares rose 3%.

Roblox will require age verification for all users to access communication features
Roblox announced that it aims to roll out age estimation technology to all of its users by the end of 2025. Users on the gaming and social network will have to confirm their age in order to access communication features within the platform under the new policy. Roblox initially rolled out an age verification option to teen accounts in July as part of an effort to keep users younger than 13 from accessing select chat features.
In addition to confirming ages for individual accounts, Roblox also said it plans to adopt new systems that will limit communication between adults and minors unless they already know each other offline. Age verification can be completed by providing a selfie that Roblox and its partner will analyze or by submitting an accepted form of identification.

Personalized AI companion app Dot is shutting down
Dot, an AI companion app launched in 2024 by New Computer founders Sam Whitmore and Jason Yuan, is shutting down by October 5. The app aimed to be a personalized “friend and confidante,” offering emotional support, but faced challenges amid growing safety concerns about AI chatbots fostering unhealthy or delusional thinking, a phenomenon dubbed “AI psychosis.”
The company cited diverging visions as the reason for closure and gave users time to download their data. Despite claiming hundreds of thousands of users, Appfigures tracked only about 24,500 iOS downloads. The shutdown reflects increasing scrutiny on AI companion apps, especially with ongoing legal and safety debates around them.

Spotify is finally launching support for lossless music streaming
Spotify is finally launching lossless audio streaming for Premium users at no extra cost, rolling out in select regions. To enjoy it at full 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC quality, you need to use Spotify Connect or wired (non-Bluetooth) headphones or speakers, as Bluetooth can’t handle the bandwidth.
Lossless must be enabled per device via Spotify’s Media Quality settings, and an indicator will show when it’s active. While it’s a big upgrade, it doesn’t yet match the highest-quality tiers from competitors like Tidal, but it’s a long-awaited feature first announced in 2021.
Here’s how to turn it on step-by-step:
1. Tap your profile icon in the top left of the app.
2. Go to Settings & Privacy → Media Quality.
3. Choose where to enable lossless audio: Wi-Fi, cellular, or downloads.
4. Manually enable it for each device you use since it’s device-specific.
