🎈Did you know that there is a programming language called Chinese BASIC?

It's designed for Chinese speakers, using Chinese characters for keywords and identifiers. This language aims to make programming more accessible to those who find it easier to learn in their native language, resembling the simplicity of traditional BASIC.

Rust Programming language Is Getting Extremely Popular

Rust has been Stack Overflow’s most loved language for many years in a row.
Most developers using it really love it and more than 80% of developers that use it want to use it again next year.
Rust is also getting popular amongst new developers who aim to write safe/ stable and concurrent/ scalable applications.
Here are some of the reasons that made Rust popular
1. High Speed & Performance
It provides high-level abstractions that compile to efficient machine code as if you wrote the low-level code by hand as in C/ C++.
2. Memory Safety Without A Garbage Collector
A Garbage collector automatically frees up memory that is no longer in use by periodically checking which objects in memory are still accessible and which are not.

Microsoft, OpenAI hit with new lawsuit by authors over AI training

OpenAI and its financial backer Microsoft were sued on Friday in Manhattan federal court by a pair of nonfiction authors who say the companies misused their work to train the artificial-intelligence models behind the popular chatbot ChatGPT and other AI-based services.
Writers Nicholas Basbanes and Nicholas Gage told the court in a proposed class action that the companies infringed their copyrights by including several of their books as part of the data used to train OpenAI’s GPT large language model.
Representatives for Microsoft and OpenAI did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the complaint.
The lawsuit follows several others filed by fiction and nonfiction writers ranging from comedian Sarah Silverman to “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin against tech companies over the alleged use of their work to train AI programs.

Title:This week in AI: Microsoft’s sticks an AI ad on keyboards

This week in AI, Microsoft unveiled a new standard PC keyboard  layout with a “Copilot” key. You heard correctly — going forward, Windows machines will have a dedicated key for launching Microsoft’s AI-powered assistant Copilot replacing the right Control key.
The move is meant, one imagines, to signal the seriousness of Microsoft’s investment in the race for consumer (and enterprise for that matter) AI dominance. It’s the first time Microsoft’s changed the Windows keyboard layout in ~30 years; laptops and keyboards with the Copilot key are scheduled to ship as soon as late February.
But is it all bluster? Do Windows users really want an AI shortcut — or Microsoft’s flavor of AI period?

Harvard’s robotic exoskeleton can improve walking, decrease falls in people with Parkinson’s

If you follow the world of robotic exoskeletons with any frequency, you’re no doubt aware of the two primary categories. The first is aimed firmly at workers with strenuous or repetitive jobs such as lifting and transporting packages. The second is assistive, largely focused at individuals with mobility impairments.

The latter category is often the domain of soft robotic exoskeletons – those with fabric parts designed to be more of a day-to-day assistive accessory. These systems are also increasingly focused on specific issues that impact people’s ability to get around. After all, not all mobility impairments are created equal.

GitHub Faces Black Market for Fake Engagement Metrics

👨‍💻👩‍💻 GitHub, known as a hub for collaboration among coders, is grappling with a rising black market in fake engagement metrics.

Online stores openly sell GitHub stars – indicators of project popularity – for as low as $6 in cryptocurrency. Wired purchased 50 stars, revealing the swift appearance of fake endorsements. This illicit market extends to other platforms like Product Hunt and Kaggle, targeting those seeking shortcuts to success. While GitHub acknowledges the issue, the challenge lies in balancing the removal of fake accounts without hindering genuine ones.

Investors also reconsider the significance of metrics like GitHub stars, signaling a shift in the tech industry's evaluation criteria for startups.

The broader concern is the growing sophistication of fake engagement tools, presenting an ongoing challenge for platforms and users alike.

Title:Google Gemini
Everything you need to know about the new generative AI platform

Google’s trying to make waves with Gemini, a new generative AI platform that recently made its big debut. But while Gemini appears to be promising in a few aspects, it’s falling short in others. So what is Gemini? How can you use it? And how does it stack up to the competition?
To make it easier to keep up with the latest Gemini developments, we’ve put together this handy guide, which we’ll keep updated as new Gemini models and features are released.

What is Gemini?
Gemini is Google’s long promised, next-gen generative AI model family, developed by Google’s AI research labs DeepMind and Google Research. It comes in three flavors:
Gemini Ultra, the flagship Gemini model
Gemini Pro, a “lite” Gemini model
Gemini Nano, a smaller “distilled” model that runs on mobile devices like the pixel 8 pro
All Gemini models were trained to be “natively multimodal” — in other words, able to work with and use more than just text. They were pre-trained and fine-tuned on a variety of audio, images and videos, a large set of codebases and text in different languages. for more info read here https://techcrunch.com/2024/01/07/what-is-google-gemini-ai/

Asus is back with another Zenbook Duo, the latest device in its range of dual-screened laptops. But rather than including a small secondary display above this laptop’s keyboard like previous Duos, the revamped version for 2024 has two equally sized 14-inch screens. They’re both OLED, with resolutions of up to 2880 x 1800, aspect ratios of 16:10, and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. Between them, they offer a total of 19.8 inches of usable screen real estate.
It’s a similar approach to the one Lenovo took with last year’s dual-screen Yoga Book 9i, albeit with a couple of tweaks. Like Lenovo, Asus gives you a choice of typing on the lower touchscreen via a virtual keyboard or by using a detachable physical Bluetooth keyboard. But what’s different here is that Asus’ keyboard has a trackpad built in, so you don’t have to use it in combination with an on-screen trackpad.
