I recently found a video of my final year project, and it bring back great memories! My team and I developed a SCARA robot for pick-and-place operations during our internship at NERD Center. We used ROS and MATLAB to finalize the simulation and code, and by the end, we had a fully working simulation.

For our final project, we integrated the simulation and code into a physical robot using a Raspberry Pi for the embedded system, allowing us to control the 3 motor joints. We even developed a mobile app to remotely control the robot’s joint & movements. Though the robot’s appearance wasn’t perfect, the experience of building it and controlling it via the app was incredibly rewarding!

The entire journey from simulation to embedded system and app integration was an amazing learning experience. Thanks to NERD Center for the amazing work space, and we were also able to impress the AASTU Computer Engineering Department head. 😁

If you're interested in ROS, check out the simulation on my github repo.

The Blindsight device from Neuralink will enable even those who have lost both eyes and their optic nerve to see.

Provided the visual cortex is intact, it will even enable those who have been blind from birth to see for the first time.

To set expectations correctly, the vision will be at first be low resolution, like Atari graphics, but eventually it has the potential be better than natural vision and enable you to see in infrared, ultraviolet or even radar wavelengths, like Geordi La Forge.

Here’s the best way to grow as a software engineer:

It’s not:

• Talking about tech.
• Reading about tech.
• Researching tech.
• Watching tech videos.

While these are valuable, true growth comes from one thing:

Doing the tech.

• Code that project.
• Build that infrastructure.
• Deploy that project.

The best learning happens when you get your hands dirty and do.

World's first fully robotic heart transplant performed 🤯

🔹A groundbreaking achievement in medical technology has been made at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where the world’s first fully robotic heart transplant was successfully performed. The operation, lasting about two and a half hours, was conducted on a 16-year-old patient suffering from end-stage heart failure, who specifically requested that his chest remain unopened during the procedure.

🔹The surgery was led by cardiovascular surgeon Feras Khaliel, who prepared meticulously with his team, conducting seven training sessions over three days to ensure everything went smoothly. This rigorous preparation highlights the complexity and innovation involved in performing such a pioneering operation.

🔹Majid Al Fayyad, the CEO of the medical center, praised the accomplishment as a significant advancement in healthcare, drawing parallels to the historical significance of the first heart transplants conducted in the 1960s. The fully robotic approach marks a new era in surgical procedures, emphasizing precision and minimally invasive techniques.

🔹This landmark surgery not only showcases the capabilities of robotic technology in medicine but also sets a precedent for future procedures. It represents a major step forward in cardiac care, offering hope for improved outcomes in patients requiring heart transplants.
