Universal Music Group (UMG) has removed its music from TikTok due to an expired licensing deal, affecting artists like Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, Drake, and even Ethiopian artist Rophnan.

TikTok users can't find UMG-licensed songs, impacting content creation. Past videos with this music may be muted or taken down.

The dispute involves compensation, AI music creation, and online safety. Negotiations are expected, and smaller artists face significant consequences. Additionally, Rophnan, an Ethiopian UMG artist, sees his music muted in TikTok videos.

Meta announces new updates to help teens on its platforms combat sextortion

Meta is implementing measures to combat sextortion on its platforms. The company is expanding the availability of Take It Down, an online tool run by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, allowing users to prevent the spread of non-consensual intimate imagery.

Originally in English and Spanish, it's now available in 25 languages. Meta is also updating its Sextortion hub with new guidance for teens and launching a global campaign to raise awareness about sextortion.

These efforts follow Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's recent Senate testimony, where concerns about online abuse, including a tragic suicide case, were raised.

YouTube says a Vision Pro app is ‘on the roadmap’

 Here’s a little bit of an about-face: YouTube now says it has a Vision Pro app on its roadmap. I mean this literally, as YouTube spokesperson Jessica Gibby just emailed me the following statement: “We’re excited to see Vision Pro launch and we’re supporting it by ensuring YouTube users have a great experience in Safari. We do not have any specific plans to share at this time, but can confirm that a Vision Pro app is on our roadmap.”
This of course follows YouTube, Spotify, and Netflix all declining to allow their iPad apps to run on the Vision Pro before launch — and the last time we asked, there was no mention of a proper visionOS YouTube app coming in the future, so something’s changed in Mountain View.

Facebook and Instagram to label all fake AI images

Meta says it will introduce technology that can detect and label images generated by other companies' artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

It will be deployed on its platforms Facebook, Instagram and Threads.

Meta already labels AI images generated by its own systems. It says it hopes the new tech, which it is still building, will create "momentum" for the industry to tackle AI fakery.

But an AI expert told the BBC such tools are "easily evadable".
In a blog written by senior executive Sir Nick Clegg, Meta says it intends to expand its labelling of AI fakes "in the coming months".

In an interview with the Reuters news agency, he conceded the technology was "not yet fully mature" but said the company wanted to "create a sense of momentum and incentive for the rest of the industry to follow".
