This Week in AI: Addressing racism in AI image generators
This week in AI, Google paused its AI chatbot Gemini’s ability to generate images of people after a segment of users complained about historical inaccuracies. Told to depict “a Roman legion,” for instance, Gemini would show an anachronistic, cartoonish group of racially diverse foot soldiers while rendering “Zulu warriors” as Black.

Instagram is working on a ‘Friend Map’ feature that would let you track friends’ locations
Instagram is reportedly developing a "Friend Map" feature, similar to Snapchat's Snap Map. This opt-in feature would allow users to track their friends' real-time locations, potentially competing with Apple's "Find My" feature.
Instagram's Friend Map includes end-to-end encrypted location data, customizable privacy settings, and the ability to leave short messages or "Notes" on the map. The company aims to keep users engaged on its platform with this potential new feature.

Feb 27 (Reuters) - OpenAI has asked a federal judge to dismiss parts of the New York Times (NYT.N), opens new tab copyright lawsuit against it, arguing that the newspaper "hacked" its chatbot ChatGPT and other artificial-intelligence systems to generate misleading evidence for the case.

In the early days of Amazon, Jeff Bezos instituted a "two-pizza rule": every internal team should be small enough that it can be fed with two pizzas. The reason was that a smaller team spends less time managing timetables and keeping people up to date, and more time doing what needs to be done.

Samsung’s Galaxy Ring is Big Tech’s first swing at the smart ring market
Samsung showed
Samsung's big item at Mobile World Congress is the odd little "Galaxy Ring," a fitness and health-tracking device shrunk down into a tiny, finger-worn circle. There are fitness rings out there already, like the Oura Ring and a few others, but this is the first one from one of the world's largest tech companies. Samsung already teased this device last month at the Galaxy S24 launch, and what we're getting at MWC are renders, brief glimpses of prototypes, and a few scraps of information.
