Title: Lockbit cybercrime gang says it is back online following global police bust

Lockbit, a cybercrime group targeted by international law enforcement, claims to have restored its servers after being taken down. Known for using ransomware to extort victims, Lockbit faced arrests and indictments in a recent operation.

Police used Lockbit's website to taunt leaders, revealing cooperation from "LockbitSupp." In a statement, Lockbit claimed law enforcement exploited a PHP vulnerability on their darkweb site but assured unaffected servers would continue leaking stolen data.

Despite Britain's National Crime Agency asserting Lockbit's compromise, they continue efforts to disrupt the group. Lockbit's new darkweb site displays a ransom countdown for targeted companies, with the group mocking law enforcement's inability to stop them.

Recent arrests and charges against Lockbit affiliates signal law enforcement's continued crackdown on ransomware operations, aiming to undermine the group's influence in cybercrime circles.

Next month, channel owners on Telegram can start receiving financial rewards from their work

Broadcast channels on Telegram generate 1 trillion views monthly. Currently, only 10% of these views are monetized with Telegram Ads — a promotion tool designed with privacy in mind.

In March, the Telegram Ad Platform will officially open to all advertisers in nearly a hundred new countries. Channel owners in these countries will start receiving 50% of any revenue that Telegram makes from displaying ads in their channels.

To ensure ad payments and withdrawals are fast and secure, we will exclusively use the TON blockchain. Similar to our approach with Telegram usernames on Fragment, we will sell ads and share revenue with channel owners in Toncoin. This will create a virtuous circle, in which content creators will be able to either cash out their Toncoins — or reinvest them in promoting and upgrading their channels 🤑

Title: White House urges developers to dump C and C++

US President Joe Biden’s administration wants software developers to use memory-safe programming languages and ditch vulnerable ones like C and C++.

The White House Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD)called on developers to reduce the risk of cyberattacks by using programming languages that don’t have memory safety vulnerabilities. Technology companies “can prevent entire classes of vulnerabilities from entering the digital ecosystem” by adopting memory-safe programming languages, the White House said in a news release.

Memory-safe programming languages are protected from software bugs and vulnerabilities related to memory access, including buffer overflows, out-of-bounds reads, and memory leaks. Recent studies from Microsoft and Google have found that about 70 percent of all security vulnerabilities are caused by memory safety issues.

The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency also urged developers to use memory-safe programming languages in a September blog post. CISA, the FBI, the US National Security Agency, and agencies from allied countries also published the report, “The Case for Memory Safe Roadmaps,” in December.

ONCD gave C and C++ as two examples of programming languages with memory safety vulnerabilities, and it named Rust as an example of a programming language it considers safe. In addition, an NSA cybersecurity information listed C#, Go, Java, Ruby, and Swift, in addition to Rust, as programming languages it considers to be memory-safe.

Title: Microsoft is working with Nvidia, AMD, and Intel to improve upscaling support in PC games

DirectSR is a new Windows API described as the ‘missing link’ between games and DLSS, FSR, and XeSS.
Microsoft has outlined a new Windows API designed to offer a seamless way for game developers to integrate super resolution AI-upscaling features from Nvidia, AMD, and Intel. In a new blog post, program manager Joshua Tucker describes Microsoft’s new DirectSR API as the “missing link” between games and super resolution technologies, and says it should provide “a smoother, more efficient experience that scales across hardware.”
