Every US federal agency must hire a chief AI officer

US federal agencies must now appoint senior leaders to oversee AI systems for safety. This guidance, announced by Vice President Kamala Harris, includes creating AI governance boards and submitting annual reports on AI use and risks.

The aim is to hire 100 AI professionals by summer. Agencies must monitor AI systems, verify safeguards against discrimination, and provide transparency. Government-owned AI models, code, and data should be made public unless posing risks. Despite lacking AI regulation laws, the executive order provides guidelines for government agencies.
