Timeline
- Sept 11–12, 2025 – Glitch in app exploited for ~48 hrs.
- Sept 12 – Suspicious activity detected, police alerted.
- Sept 13 – FIR filed, probe begins.
- Sept 16–17 – Arrests, accounts frozen.
The Glitch
- Came after a software update.
- Allowed:
- Transactions marked successful even if payment failed.
- Sending more than wallet balance.
- Wrong UPI PIN still processed.
- Enabled large‑scale unauthorised fund transfers.
Scale
- Total siphoned: ₹40.2 cr.
- ~5 lakh transactions.
- ~2,500 beneficiary accounts.
- ₹14 cr recovered; net loss ~₹26 cr.
Police Action
- Arrested: Rehan, Waqar Yunus, Wasim Akram, Mohd Amir, Mohd Ansar, Mohd Sakil (from Nuh & Palwal, Haryana).
- ₹8 cr frozen in linked accounts; debit freezes, lien marks applied.
- Charged under Sections 318(4) & 314.
- Probe on for more beneficiaries, possible insider role.
