🚨 Carrier Abuse of iOS Alerts in India
What’s happening:
- Airtel and other carriers push intrusive “Recharge Now” banners on iPhones when daily data ends.
- These appear like emergency alerts, injected via SIM Toolkit/USSD, not normal notifications.
Why it’s a problem:
- Alerts are persistent and hard to dismiss—restarts or toggling airplane mode rarely help.
- They override iOS’s protections, mimicking channels meant for disasters or public safety.
Impact on users:
- Frustration over Apple’s ecosystem being hijacked.
- Banner often disappears only after recharging or reinserting the SIM.
Bigger picture:
- Seen as abuse of trust and misuse of emergency systems.
- Users call for Apple to block such practices and for TRAI to regulate.
- For now, switching carriers is the only reliable escape.
