The U.S. ITC issued a preliminary ruling that BOE misappropriated Samsung Display’s OLED trade secrets and recommended an import ban. If finalized, BOE panels cannot enter the U.S. market. Apple cannot rely on a supplier exposed to a potential ban in its largest revenue region.

Apple redirected volume to Samsung Display and LG Display, prioritizing yield reliability and legal safety. BOE is effectively confined to low-volume or region-specific roles.

6. Consequences for BOE

Large OLED fab investments built to serve Apple will be underutilized. Re-entry requires demonstrably stable yields, strict process compliance, and resolution of IP litigation.
