Children below 18-year-old in India, will require consent from their parents to open accounts in Social Media:

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued draft rules under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act), introducing stringent measures for children's data privacy.

A key aspect of these proposed regulations is the requirement for verifiable parental consent for children below 18 years to open social media accounts.

This move aims to safeguard minors from potential online harms and unauthorized data exploitation.

The draft, published in the Gazette of India, specifies that data fiduciaries must ensure that consent is obtained from parents before processing the personal data of their children.

This includes the creation of social media profiles. Public feedback on these draft rules is being solicited until February 18, 2025,

VPN usage spiked in the US as States ban porn

17 states out of 50 states in the US (more than 33%),have now introduced restrictions for online adult content, blocking access to popular pornographic websites such as Pornhub, RedTube, YouPorn etc. The restriction applies to the under 18 age group and it also requires visitors to provide state-approved identification, such as a passport or driving license.

Critics claim that this is a violation of user privacy, with Pornhub, RedTube and YouPorn parent company Aylo claiming that it also puts people’s personal data at risk. These company have withdrawn its websites from these states as a result of the laws.

Further restrictions could be introduced under Donald Trump’s administration as Project 2025 plan states that :-

"Pornography should be outlawed. The people who produce and distribute it should be imprisoned”.
