Launching today in the US, Instagram Map lets you:
- Share your latest active location (off by default)
- Discover location based posts & reels from friends/creators
- Leave short “Notes” pinned to locations
Unlike Snapchat, the map only updates when you open the app - no always on tracking.
It’s a move that could also appeal to fans of Zenly, the social map app Snap shot down in 2023.
Other updates:
Reposts for reels & feed posts (with their own profile tab) - similar to TikTok reposts & Twitter retweets
“Friends” tab in Reels now global, showing what your friends like, comment on, repost, or create
