WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Meta, has reportedly initiated the removal of unlimited chat backups on Google Drive for users enrolled in its beta testing program.

Google unveiled a bunch of new features today at CES. Taking the cake is probably the new Quick Share system, developed in partnership with Samsung. This will replace Google's Nearby Share, introduced in 2020.

WhatsApp is reportedly working on an upcoming feature that will enable iOS users to customize the theme accent of the popular messaging app. According to insights shared by WABetaInfo, a feature tracker, the beta version on iOS has already seen changes in the app’s appearance, introducing a green tint to certain interface elements. This indicates a future update allowing users to choose from five theme colour accents.

In the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS update, code reveals that users will soon have the option to select an accent colour for various UI elements, such as message counts, status update circles, tab colours, and specific buttons. The current stable version displays these elements with a blue accent, while the upcoming update will offer choices between green, blue, off-white, pink, and purple accents. Users will be informed that their selection will only impact the app’s main branding colour.

Microsoft Overtakes Apple as World's Most Valuable Company.

Microsoft today overtook Apple as the world's most valuable public company by market value. Apple's share price dropped by just one percent, enabling Microsoft to narrowly pull ahead of Apple at a value of $2.87 trillion.

Microsoft has briefly overtaken Apple as the most valuable company since 2018, most recently in 2020 and 2021 when concerns about supply chain shortages dented Apple's stock price and a boom in remote working bolstered Microsoft. Over the past year, Microsoft's support for artificial intelligence tools by backing OpenAI has helped boost its value, while equivalent offerings from Apple have been noticeably absent.
