In an unexpected news, Nvidia has invested 5 billion dollars in Intel and now owns more than 4% of the company's shares! In reaction to this news, Intel's stock price increased by up to 32%. AMD's shares also dropped by 5%.
In this major collaboration, Intel is set to build its x86 server processors based on Nvidia's specifications, connect them to Nvidia's AI chips via the high-speed NVLink interface, and Nvidia will offer them as an option to its customers.
20 years ago, Intel at one point intended to buy Nvidia for 20 billion dollars, but AI and Intel's successive failures have reversed the positions of these two companies in the market.
Additionally, Nvidia continues to invest in building processors based on ARM, and given the chiplet design, Nvidia will still use TSMC for chip manufacturing and currently has no plans to produce its chips in Intel's chip fabrication plants.
