Conference - A session from the Journal of Heritage Tourism:

Geographies of Heritage Tourism

Timothy (2018) noted the intrinsic intersection between heritage tourism and geography, with heritage spaces functioning as liminal sites of cross-generational connection.

All submissions need to be submitted via the official conference abstract website (available here) by 9 January 2026. Abstracts should be in English and a maximum of 300 words.

Particularly interested in abstracts related to the following:

Heritage tourism and identity;
Heritage, power, and tourism;
Contested heritage places;
Decolonizing heritage tourism;
Heritage tourism narratives and interpretation;
Intangible heritage, tourism, and place;
Heritage tourism and climate change;
Heritage and tourism planning and policy;
Heritage, communities, and tourism.

● How does research in the Global South clarify, challenge, confirm, and expand our understanding of the underlying assumptions, cross-level dynamics, boundary conditions, and generalizability of management theories?

● How do the unique challenges and contexts faced by Global South organizations expand, question, confirm, and complement existing management theory?

● What are problems or challenges faced by Global South organizations, or solutions proposed, that benefit from better understanding and adaptations of our theories?

● What are the existing management theories that could be usefully confirmed, adapted, or deepened through application and testing in Global South contexts?

مطلقْ حرف‌زدن در اکثر موارد از خصوصیات ذهن‌های نابالغ است. ولی متأسفانه قاطعیت جذاب است و مخاطب کم‌تجربه نمی‌تواند به‌سادگی بین قاطعیت ناشی از علم فراوان (که بسیار سخت‌یاب است) و قاطعیت ناشی از جهل فرق بگذارد.

Developing Conceptual Articles in Tourism

Developing high-quality conceptual articles remains one of the most intellectually demanding yet impactful forms of academic contribution. Conceptual work is crucial for advancing theoretical understanding, but it remains underrepresented in tourism research. This gap is partly driven by perceived reviewer bias against non-empirical work and the inherent challenges of developing, framing, and publishing conceptual articles.

We discuss how conceptual work can synthesise, integrate, and reconfigure existing knowledge to generate novel insights. Conceptual articles tend to be cited more frequently than empirical ones, underscoring their lasting intellectual impact and influence. We argue that impactful conceptual papers require both deep domain expertise and the creative capacity to “see things anew.”
