Therefore what manner of reward do you hope to attain without sweat? Are you still searching for shortcuts, for hacks? There are none. The Immortals would allow no such thing.
Isn't that which is superior to man by its very nature meant to challenge man? To elevate him. To allow the best there is to shine forth and leave behind the mediocre at best, multitude?
In that case, suffer today so that what seems like torture to mere mortals tomorrow be nothing more than frivolity to you.

Practice the art of testing whether particular things are actually good or not. Learn to wait and assess instead of always reacting from untrained instinct. Spontaneity is not a virtue in and of itself.
If some pleasure is promised to you and it seductively calls to you, step back and give yourself some time before mindlessly jumping at it. Dispassionately turn the matter over in your mind: Will this pleasure bring momentary delight, or real, lasting satisfaction? It makes a difference in the quality of our life and the kind of person we will become when we learn how to distinguish between cheap thrills and meaningful, lasting rewards.
If, in calmly considering this pleasure, you realize that if you indulge in it you will regret it, abstain and rejoice in your forbearance. Reinforce the triumph of your character and you will be strengthened."

Many times when hardship comes, we have our own plans for how to handle it.
We have plan A, B, C, D, etc., and after we have exhausted all of those, we find ourselves in that place where we say, “If God doesn’t come through for me, it is over with. This is horrible.” But actually, it is not horrible because it is an opportunity for God to show His glory.
When times are tough, we have a built-in instinct to become dependent upon God for strength that is needed. It is obvious that so many of us are growing weary in these dark days of oppression that we live.
Struggles surround us at every corner, and it is hard to stave off the growing fears of uncertainty. We were told in the Scripture that these times would come and test the faithful.
Remember, when you get to the end of yourself, you get to the beginning of God.
