Death Leading Hells Army By the English School 1800

Hel is a God who collects the woeful and forgotten, the lost ghosts of people who died unextraordinary deaths. Famine, Pestilence and the like.
She takes them to her hall and gives them a time to rest their weary bones and for this she has their undying thanks.
For her they would fight the very gods themselves, be they little more than a rejuvenated debtor or pestilent afflicted pauper armed with fists and pitchforks they would fight Gods who slew armies of Nature Deities in bloody combat. What chance do they have?
But how could they choose anything else?

As a nice reprieve from the toxic modern world here is a nice painting of a wholesome heterosexual duck family.

Notice how the drake (male duck) stands tall and proud as a watchful sentry over his family, ever alert for danger, whilst the mother duck tends to her ducklings, confident that their father will neither became lazy in his duties or abandon his post.

"They'll no' get him a' in a book I think
Though they write it cunningly;
No mouse of the scrolls was the Goodly Fere
But aye loved the open sea.

If they think they ha' snared our Goodly Fere
They are fools to the last degree.
"I'll go to the feast," quo' our Goodly Fere,
"Though I go to the gallows tree."

"Ye ha' seen me heal the lame and blind,
And wake the dead," says he,
"Ye shall see one thing to master all:
'Tis how a brave man dies on the tree."

A son of God was the Goodly Fere
That bade us his brothers be.
I ha' seen him cow a thousand men.
I have seen him upon the tree."
