Okay meme chat we're gonna have a big ol' adult talk now because some of y'all take my shit kicking a bit too seriously
Me using Telegram while dunking on Cohost for being centralized isn't the galactic own you think it is (which is why the "yet you participate in society, curious!" comic exists)
Every centralized platform could sink into the fucking ocean tomorrow and I would not give a single fuck
Unlike (most of) the rest of y'all I've been terminally online since the fucking 1990's. I remember before we had monolithic centralized platforms land-grabbing everyone for attention and ad dollars
Back in my day if you wanted to have a "presence" on the internet you were on IRC or Newsgroups or if you were smort you wrote HTML and set up a Geocities page
Hell, even back then when we had "monolithic" platforms. Y'know what we all did? We used fucking Trillian, or Pidgin (or Digsby if you were an idiot). We built programs that just talked to everything at once
Except instead now y'all reinvented that with "Matrix" but instead of making it a platform to connect to everything y'all spend all your fucking time crying that not everything is *on* Matrix instead. You literally created a competing standard to be the very thing you hate
The exact same thing applies to Cohost. A bunch of silicon valley dweebs fucking built a twitter clone like they build every other fucking thing today by massively over-engineering it and trying to pay 6-figure Silicon Valley wages and then realized "aw fuck we can't make enough money on this to be sustainable"
Mastodon isn't good, and very likely never will be "good" in the way y'all want it to be. It's like you explained Twitter to a fucking Linux user
Y'know what Mastodon is going to be? One of those pieces of software that survives like a fucking germ because you can run it on a goddamn Raspberry Pi for free the same way we all did with tiny IRC networks in the 90's
