Test mascherine: 14 su 20 con batteri responsabili di meningiti e polmoniti

"A Swiss laboratory performed a mask test on 20 commuters and what they found is not comforting.

The Swiss consumer magazine K-Tipp decided to examine the masks used to see if they were contaminated.

They collected twenty disposable masks from commuters in Zurich and commissioned the test to a Swiss laboratory. Operation that was not easy given the many rejections due to the coronavirus.

The results obtained by the laboratory are not very reassuring. Eleven of the twenty masks contained more than 100,000 bacterial colonies, three of which even exceeded a million.

Mask test: what the lab found
The lab technicians who performed the test found staphylococci on 14 masks. These are bacteria that could cause pneumonia and meningitis.

On the other hand, out of 15 they found molds and yeasts (fungi) which, according to the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health, could be responsible for irritation to the respiratory tract and eyes.

In addition, the hot and humid environment that forms between the mask and the mouth favors the proliferation of these pathogens.

Protective devices are currently mandatory in many situations. What is not explained is the correct use.

The disposable face mask should be a protective device against coronavirus. It is used to block the droplets produced with a cough, sneeze or when talking, which could contain the virus.

It would seem that many use the same disposable mask for days or even weeks without ever changing it.

Many keep them in their pocket or tied to the arm or in the car attached to the gearbox. In this way, the hygienic conditions of the masks are in most cases not the best.

The experts' recommendation is to change them regularly as soon as they get wet and try not to touch them.

The risk is to get more side effects than benefits due to incorrect use. We remind you that even protective devices can be harmful and dangerous."
