'Nature' is a common substitute for religion these days, as if it's some clearly defined, inflexible & unambiguous pillar that supposedly props up certain people's artificially binary conceptions about the world. But nature is not so rigid and stagnant. Rather, people tend to project onto nature their own misconceptions & fallacies. They fear the inherent liminality and ambiguity in all of existence, so they try to make sense out of things by creating clearly defined categories & groupings. Anyone and anything that threatens their sense of an unambiguously delineated & polarized (i.e. us vs. them thinking) universe becomes either ignored, marginalized, or attacked.

Maybe we should let people determine their own identities, because we will never know someone better than they can know themselves. Maybe we should just let people be authentically themselves.

👆I knew I'd take heat (same old flawed arguments based in religious dogma or fear of the spooky gay agenda) for the above post, but this thing must needs be done. Someone has to be the gadfly, because it's evident from the responses and from what's going on in society at large that the right is just as extremist and unbalanced as any other group. Y'all have become the new oppressors, yet you insist on claiming that others' freedom to be themselves somehow oppresses you. You claim to be the mouthpiece of your god — the arrogance! You claim to know who people are better than they do, as if you yourselves are gods that can see into other's hearts. And you base these claims on a deficient understanding of biology, as well as cherrypicked arguments taken from a bronze age text. If you were correct, intersex people wouldn't exist, because said text fails to mention them. If you were correct, nature would not display such diversity. If you were correct, gay and trans people wouldn't exist, because as children we were bombarded by straight and cis media — if gay propaganda could somehow turn kids gay (it can't), then straight propaganda would've turned us queer kids straight (it didn't).

But if I must play the role of a villain in the eyes of people here, then so be it. I'll live with the consequences, yet I must speak on this subject. I once fought alongside the right against covid tyranny, and I don't regret opposing it. But it's now very clear that I and all queer people are viewed as a threat to be purged. So, to point out the glaring flaws in conservative "logic" is my form of digital self-defense. I would happily coexist alongside you, even with our differing worldviews and beliefs, because I do not seek the extermination of those who differ from me. But you do. Even if you, as an individual reading this post, do not seek my extermination, your side does — that much is clear from their words and actions. They seek to make my very existence illegal; it was never about "protecting kids", because they are attempting to legislate against queer adults now, too (and just so there's no confusion on this point, I agree with y'all that any inappropriate exposure of children to sexual behavior is disgusting, and kids need to be protected against that sort of thing).

I've said what I needed to. If I end up burning bridges here, then I accept that outcome. But if any of y'all want to open up a good faith, constructive dialogue — one based in a sincere desire to understand one another, rather than the wish to demonize my people — then I'm totally open to that.

Hi everyone,

My return came with a little big hiccup. Lots to arrange.
Turns out my custodian who stayed in my house has sold/thrown/taken half my interior so that needs replacing. And ofcourse a lawsuit.
Meanwhile , I am working my ass off in paperwork and unpacking best I can (not enough storage) but the cats are happy here and love the space they have now.

Just one more week to get things in order and I’ll be back.
Hate to start and have to interrupt again due to circumstances, so I’d rather finish everything and get back online as soon I’m done arranging everything . Which should be soon (maybe a week or little more)

The principle of "allow people the things they like" is an important one

Some people don't understand the draw of birdwatching, other people do

No one's trying to convert you to birdwatching if they're open about it in front of you. They just wanna talk about their hobbies without judgment

Birdwatchers aren't trying to convert your children if they do a presentation in schools. If your kid is already inclined to enjoy the observation of avian fauna (but they don't know it yet), then a presentation will just be highly likely to bring out their inner birdwatcher

If your kid isn't naturally inclined to this, then nothing and no one can get them to become one

There's nothing wrong with children learning about new things, new possibilities, and new ways of being that they haven't considered before. It's how we grow as people, especially in our formative years

Making birdwatching illegal just because you don't understand or practice it is the epitome of tyrannical tantrum-throwing
