Water case collective action

Your water company may have been overcharging you for your water bills.

"Professor Carolyn Roberts, an environmental and water specialist, is bringing legal claims against a number of water companies for overcharging their customers. These companies have allegedly been misleading their regulators by underreporting the number of pollution incidents, being discharges of wastewater from a company sewerage asset adversely affecting the water environment and resulting in higher customer bills.

These claims are collective actions which seek to recover compensation for those household customers who, as a result of overcharging, have paid, and continue to pay, whether they are paying directly or as part their rent, higher water bills for the provision of sewerage services, whether customers are or have been paying directly or as part their rent.

If you pay or have paid for wastewater services provided by one or more of the six water companies included in the claims, you could be ennoscriptd to compensation. We are issuing claims against each of these six water companies:

Thames Water, Severn Trent, Northumbrian Water, United Utilities, Yorkshire Water and Anglian Water"

Music labels sue Internet Archive over digitized record collection

Universal Music Group Sony Music Entertainment and other record labels on Friday sued the nonprofit #InternetArchive for copyright infringement over its streaming collection of digitized music from vintage records.

The labels' lawsuit filed in a federal court in Manhattan said the Archive's "Great 78 Project" functions as an "illegal record store" for songs by musicians including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis and Billie Holiday.

They named 2,749 sound-recording copyrights that the Archive allegedly infringed. The labels said their damages in the case could be as high as $412m.

Representatives for the Internet Archive did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the complaint.

The San Francisco-based Internet Archive digitally archives websites, books, audio recordings and other materials. It compares itself to a library and says its mission is to "provide universal access to all knowledge"

Davos 2023: Global bank chiefs get FBI cybersecurity update

DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan 19 (Reuters) - Global bank and exchange chiefs got insight on cybersecurity and resilience from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation's director during a private session in Davos this week.

Christopher Wray addressed top bankers at the meeting at the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual gathering of industry leaders, five sources who attended the meeting said.

The financial services executives also compared notes on economic risks, financial stability and sustainability.

The WEF and major corporations last month launched its “Defining and Building the Metaverse” initiative, with corporate stakeholders jockeying for a role in defining, developing — and profiting — from the technology.

As the initiative’s name implies, its stakeholders are still in the process of defining exactly what the term “metaverse” means.
However, according to the WEF, in part, the metaverse involves a moment “at which our digital lives­ — our online identities, experiences, relationships, and assets — become more meaningful to us than our physical lives.”

“To us, the priority is to help create a world in which we can give kids all the benefits of the metaverse — one with immersive experiences, creativity and self-expression at its core — in a way that is also safe, protects their rights and promotes their well-being.”
