The Public Health Act 1984 is still on our books and was the act used to write the Covid health regs
The quarantine powers in the act grant authorities broad powers to detain, isolate, or impose restrictions on individuals or groups based on suspected infection or public health risks. These powers can be exercised with minimal oversight, often without requiring concrete evidence of a threat, and can include forced medical examinations, isolation, or even property seizure
This is massive overreach and prioritises state control over individual liberties, with vague criteria for "public health necessity" that could be abused and has wide potential for arbitrary enforcement
This act needs to go in the bin and it really annoys me that people don't know about it!

This must be resisted with everything we have
In the UK, whilst there’s no single written constitutional document, the right to a jury trial is a cornerstone of common law, reinforced by centuries of legal tradition. The Criminal Justice Act 2003 allows judge-only trials in exceptional cases, but even then, it’s a "last resort". Expanding to routine cases will further erode our constitution, especially since jury nullification—where juries acquit despite evidence, based on their sense of justice—has historically checked state overreach
Juries reduce risk of judicial bias or political influence. Shifting to judges or magistrate panels—potentially influenced by government pressure or AI tools, as hinted in the 2023 judicial concerns about ChatGPT misuse—could tilt the scales
This is also a clear move toward "guilty until proven innocent," inverting the presumption that’s been legal doctrine for centuries

But in hospitals across the UK and the wider world, this definition has been replaced by a lie. A legal invention. A construct called brainstem death, created not by science, but by committee, used to justify ventilator withdrawal, euthanasia, and the harvesting of human organs from the living.

In 1967, Dr. Christiaan Barnard performed the world’s first heart transplant in South Africa. But behind the headlines were the quiet screams of two babies in New York, infants who died during failed transplant experiments. Outcry followed.
