German government announces it is shutting down MindGeek sites Pornhub, YouPorn, and Mydirtyhobby for failure to protect children unless they implement reliable age verification to ensure only adults can access or upload content.

"Germany has consistently been one of the top 10 countries in the world bringing traffic to Pornhub," says Laila Mickelwait, CEO of Justice Defense Fund.

MindGeek has refused age verification for over a decade because "the exploitation of children is built into their business model," Mickelwait says. One senior MindGeek manager admitted it doesn't want to lose traffic and revenue.

"Any age verification devastates traffic," the manager complained. "Pornhub stands to lose 50% of traffic. It costs us money to verify and overall it's a disaster."

Mickelwait said the real disaster is "when children are freely given access to watch the real rape and trafficking of victims on Pornhub and other free porn tube sites that operate the same way."
