One of my heroes went to be with Jesus yesterday--Brother Andrew. During the Cold War he'd hide bibles in his Volkswagen bug, drive them across Europe, and somehow get them thru well-guarded borders into Romania, East Germany, the Soviet Union, China, and many other places.

One of the honors of my life as a journalist was to spend a few days with "God's Smuggler" and write about his life and the miracles that got millions of bibles across closed borders.

Years later I took bags of bibles into China and prayed Brother Andrew's prayer:

“Lord, in my luggage I have Scripture I want to take to your children. When you were on earth, You made blind eyes see. Now, I pray, make seeing eyes blind. Do not let the guards see those things You do not want them to see.”

God did the most creative miracles every single time.

I wonder how many people are welcoming Brother Andrew to Heaven right now, telling him how they learned about Jesus through a bible he smuggled across a closed border and into their hands.
