Imagine my shock, a Clinton appointed judge
Sam Bankman-Fried's criminal case over the collapse of his FTX cryptocurrency exchange has been reassigned to a judge recently known for handling defamation lawsuits against former U.S. President Donald Trump and a sexual abuse lawsuit against Britain's Prince Andrew.
U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan replaces his colleague Ronnie Abrams, who recused herself on Friday after learning that the law firm Davis Polk & Wardwell, where her husband is a partner, advised FTX in 2021.
On May 5, 1994, Kaplan was nominated by President Bill Clinton to a seat on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York vacated by Gerard Louis Goettel. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on August 9, 1994, and received his commission on August 10, 1994.

Police say witnesses heard a plane sputtering soon after take-off then watched in horror as the single-engine Piper plunged into Beards Creek in Edgewater, Maryland on Monday morning.
But first, they had to get to the stranded pilot. Thankfully, kayaks were within reach. The officer used two large screwdrivers as oars to navigate the kayak over the ice. Two civilians also grabbed kayaks to make their way to the stranded pilot: 71-year-old Steve Couchman.
