Russia and Egypt consulting on trade in national currencies

Russia and Egypt are holding intensive consultations on switching to national currencies in settlements in mutual trade, Russian Ambassador to Cairo Georgy Borisenko said.

"Intensive consultations on switching to national currencies in settlements in mutual trade have been continuing since spring 2022," Borisenko said.

The diplomat stressed that such transition "will allow to avoid arbitrariness of the Western countries that are using their own currencies for geopolitical purposes.

"We proceed from the fact that it is necessary to move faster towards de-dollarization of foreign trade relations and economic relations in general," the ambassador added.
