Five men with their hands tied were found on the streets of Matamoros, in the state of Tamaulipas, next to an alleged apology message from the Gulf cartel for the kidnapping of four US citizens on March 3.
Although the Mexican and US authorities have not verified the authenticity of the message, local media assure that it is an apology from this criminal group.
Even a Mexican official close to the case and consulted by CNN believes that the letter is reliable.
🗨 "[The Gulf cartel] apologizes to the Matamoros society, to the relatives of Mrs. Areli, and to the affected American individuals and families," read the message, written on a sheet of paper.
