Turkey has stopped refueling and servicing more than two dozen Airbus and Boeing planes from Russian and Belarusian airlines. This decision was taken by the Turkish Ministry of Customs and Commerce after receiving a letter from the Bureau of Industry and Security of the United States Department of Commerce.
This affects cargo, commercial and charter aircrafts, as well as ships with more than 25% of components manufactured in the United States and destined for Russia and Belarus. The restriction applies to several aircraft from Aeroflot, S7 Airlines, Utair, AZUR Air, Pegas Fly, Rossiya, Yamal and Belavia.
As a result, Russian planes taking off from Turkey without refueling land in Sochi, where they refuel and continue their flight.
In addition, planes flying the Turkish flag are prohibited from buying fuel from the Russian oil companies Gazprom and Lukoil, which are under sanctions.
Aeroflot declared that the airline “operates flights to cities in Turkey normally, according to schedule, within the declared flight schedule”.

Officials: US is now weighing the benefits of drone intel against the risks of escalation with Russia

The US is conducting an assessment of its drone operations in the Black Sea area, weighing the costs and benefits of the flights after Russia forced down one of the aircraft earlier this week, several officials told CNN.

The US has not stopped the flights entirely while it completes the analysis — the military sent the same model of drone, an MQ-9 Reaper, on a mission in approximately the same area over the Black Sea shortly after the collision occurred, US officials said. That aircraft was meant to survey the crash site and monitor Russians looking for the debris.

But the US military is “taking a close look” at the drones' routes and assessing how to better reduce the risk of conflict with Russia's military, which regularly flies fighter jets in and out of Crimea, the officials said.

The Pentagon plans to analyze the overall costs and benefits of flying these missions, comparing the potential intelligence value of a particular route versus the risk of escalation with Russia.

Pentagon (Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder) statements on the drone incident

"We assess it's very unlikely that they would be able to recover anything useful given a couple of factors. One, the fact -- and I'm not going to go into details -- but that we took steps to protect information aboard that aircraft. And two, the fact that it crashed in extremely deep water,"

Mr Ryder also said the US did not ask Russia for an apology after the drone incident in the Black Sea.
