Cincinnati residents near Ohio River urged to shelter in place fire as crews battle barge fire

A barge fire on the Ohio River is creating large amount of smoke due the involvement of diesel fuel

Residents within a half mile of the fire are urged to stay inside and turn off their HVAC

Vehicular and pedestrian traffic is restricted in the area due to the heavy smoke

Diesel fuel is the main source of the fire, creating a large amount of dark smoke, but they say no other hazardous materials are known to be involved.

This is the second incident involving barges on the Ohio River in the last two days. Several barges became loose near Louisville, Kentucky early Tuesday morning. As of Wednesday afternoon, there was no indication of leaks or risk to drinking water.
