TO THE RESCUE!
Two of our LVMPD CCAC came to the assistance of a concerned citizen near Desert Inn and University Drive on Tuesday.
The citizen watched a momma duck and her 9 ducklings cross the busy road and became stranded in the middle of Las Vegas near The Strip!
Officer Jimmy Velasco and Officer Andy Nguyen used the citizen's basket and carefully loaded up mom and babies for a police escort to Sunset Park!
As you can see in the video, the momma duck and ducklings were uninjured and headed off to their new surroundings! 🦆

The optional memorial for Saint Katharine Drexel is a another name I vaguely recall but when I looked up her story, she was new to me. The fact she founded so many schools for “Indians and Colored People” gives me pause, as I have learned a lot of bad things about the residential schools run by Catholic and Protestant churches in Canada thanks to Kevin Annett. Anyway, I have attached a couple links about her if you are interested. Britannica.com has a nice brief summary about her as follows:
“St. Katharine Drexel, (born November 26, 1858, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.—died March 3, 1955, Cornwells Heights; feast day [U.S.] March 3), American founder of the Blessed Sacrament Sisters for Indians and Colored People (now Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament), a congregation of missionary nuns dedicated to the welfare of American Indians and African Americans. She is the patron saint of racial justice and of philanthropists.” (Britannica.com)
I have quoted all the readings from the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) website, the Catholic “New American Bible” (NAB) and the Protestant “1599 Geneva Bible”.
The first reading is from Ezekiel. I have quoted the introduction from the NAB version to provide context for this passage. Hopefully this will make it more real for you why Ezekiel was preaching on this subject.
“THE BOOK OF EZEKIEL
In response to the rebellion of Jehoiakim of Judah in 601 B.C., Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylonian ruler, besieged Jerusalem. When Jehoiakim’s successor, Jehoiachin, surrendered in 597, Nebuchadnezzar appointed Zedekiah king and deported to Babylon Jehoiachin and the royal family, along with members of the upper class, including Ezekiel the priest. Five years later, as Zedekiah planned his own revolt against Babylon, Ezekiel became the first prophet to be commissioned outside Judah or Israel (chaps. 1–3). Before Jerusalem is destroyed (587 B.C.), Ezekiel is concerned to convince his audience that they are responsible for the punishment of exile and to justify the Lord’s decision to destroy their city and Temple. Later, Ezekiel argues that the Judahites who embrace his preaching are the people whom the Lord has chosen as a new Israel, enlivened by a new heart, imbued with new breath (chaps. 36–37), and restored to a re-created land, Temple, and covenant relationship (chaps. 40–48). Ezekiel is clear on one point: the Lord punishes and restores for one reason—for the sake of his name, in order to demonstrate once and for all that he is Lord.
