⚡️🇬🇦 The coup d'etat in Gabon

A group of senior Gabonese military officers appeared on television channel Gabon 24 in the early hours of Wednesday and said they had taken power, after the state election body announced President Ali Bongo had won a third term.

Twelve soldiers appeared on television announcing they were cancelling the results of the election and dissolving "all the institutions of the republic". "We have decided to defend peace by putting an end to the current regime."

This, they added, was down to "irresponsible, unpredictable governance resulting in a continuing deterioration in social cohesion that risks leading the country into chaos".

The officers in charge of the coup stated that they represent all the security officials of the country, and that there's no inner fighting between them.

Witnesses have heard heavy automatic weapons fire in Libreville, Gabon's capital.

🇬🇦❓🛢— Its important to note that despite Oil being Gabon's primary export (and its primary trade partner China) its oil has a heaviness of around 13-24 therefore not primarily used for the production of Gasoline.
However, it's the 2nd largest exporter of Manganese Ore which is important in the production of Steel and Aluminium Alloy.
