🇪🇹 The Ethiopian Federal Police announced the seizure of more than 8.8 million birr (≈$167 thousand) of cash at the Serdo checkpoint (Afar state) from a truck with the flag of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), en route from Addis Ababa to Tigray state in convoy with humanitarian aid.
The ICRC has already issued a statement in connection with the incident condemning the smuggling of cash and other prohibited items as part of a humanitarian convoy, noting that the truck and driver were commercially hired and the ICRC has nothing to do with the money.
