At least 4,000 US and Indonesian grunts are conducting a two-week exercise in a show of strength to Beijing.
Australia, Indonesia, and Japanese forces are completing maneuvers with their US allies on Sumatra and Rieu - near Singapore - as they plan how to face up to China in the region.
Despite how it might appear, the US insists that they pose no threat. “This is really an exercise to build trust, build togetherness, and mutual understanding,” Major General Stephen Smith insisted. “This is really a military exercise and not a threat to any party.”
