BREAKING: Biden administration has asked the Supreme Court to intervene and reinstate the Student Loan Forgiveness Program, which was shut down by the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. The appeal heads the Justice Kavanaugh’s desk, where he can reject it, or refer it to the full court for consideration.

NEW: Supreme Court will hear a case involving Jack Daniel’s, the whiskey company, and “Bad Spaniels” dog toys company, the issue over trademark laws, Court will hear the case next year.

BREAKING: Supreme Court DENIES Fmr. President Trump’s bid to prevent a House Ways and Means Committee from receiving his tax returns. This new order comes just three weeks after Chief Justice Roberts temporarily halted the turnover of his tax returns to the Committee. There are no recorded dissents.

Busy week at the Supreme Court, with four oral arguments scheduled between today and Wednesday. Today the court will hear arguments in case “Percoco v U.S.” which deals with the issue on whether a private citizen, not occupying a public office, who is influential over governmental decisions, has a fiduciary duty to the general public. The court will also hear arguments in case “Ciminelli v U.S.”, which deals with the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and “right to control” theory of fraud. Arguments begin at 10amET.

Today the Court will hear arguments in case “United States V Texas”. which entails whether state officials or plaintiffs, have the legal standing to challenge the Department of Homeland Security’s guidance when it comes to the enforcement of civil immigration policies/laws. In July the divided court declined to reinstate Biden’s immigration guidelines but agreed to hear the case. This is the only case on the docket for oral arguments today, arguments begin at 10amET.

BREAKING: SCOTUS allows the execution of Kevin Johnson, convicted of murdering a police sergeant in Missouri on July 5, 2005. The Missouri Supreme Court this morning rejected the bid to stay his execution, and tonight the United States Supreme Court, via the shadow docket, has also rejected his bid to stay the execution scheduled for tonight. Justice Sotomayor and Justice Jackson dissented from the decision.
Today the court will hear a case called “Wilkins V United States” which is in correlation with the Quiet noscript and whether it is a jurisdictional requirement or a claim processing rule. This is the only case scheduled for oral arguments today, we may receive an order or two from the shadow docket, however only time will tell.

ICYMI: Supreme Court Justice Jackson wrote a brief dissent, in which Justice Sotomayor joined, on the Johnson V Missouri case involving the man whom was executed in Missouri on Tuesday night after the Supreme Court gave the seal of approval in the 7-2 shadow docket decision. This dissent came out the day after the Court's decision, so it was not attached to the Tuesday order. https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/22pdf/22a463_o759.pdf
BREAKING: Supreme Court will hear the issue of whether President Biden has the legal or constitutional authority to forgive federal student loans, the Court will hear the case in February. This case was the lawsuit pending out of the eighth circuit court, which two weeks ago blocked the program from granting forgiveness.
NOTE: The eighth circuit ruling is still in effect, since the Court has not forsooth denied nor granted the application for stay of the decision.
Today at the Supreme Court: Does a Colorado law stating businesses open to the public cannot refuse service to gay couples or express intent to do such, violate the constitutional right to freedom of speech and religion? That’s what the Supreme Court is ultimately deciding in a case known as 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis. Lorie Smith is a wedding website designer who refuses to make them for same sex couples, she says she opposes same sex marriage on the basis of religion. Smith is suing the Colorado law claiming it violates her right to free speech and religion, however the court today is only hearing the free speech claim, not the religious one.

Today at the Supreme Court: Should a Bankruptcy debtor be held liable for another individual’s fraud even if that person was unaware of the fraud that happened? That’s the question before the Supreme Court today in case called Barkenwerfer V Buckley.

Also at the Supreme Court, the justices will hear a case about government defrauding and the false claims act, in a case called United States, ex rel. Polansky v. Executive Health Resources, Inc.

Today at the last Supreme Court sitting of the year: Does the constitution give state legislatures ultimate power and authority to regulate federal elections within their respective states without interference from state courts, governors, or other government bodies? That’s the question today in a widely controversial case over the “Independent State legislature theory”. In the case of Moore V Harper, the Supreme Court will analyze whether the state courts can interfere with election based laws made by the state legislature and whether the federal courts will have jurisdictional discretion in the issue as well.

Arguments begin at 10amET, this is the last case of the 2022 court sitting and the only case of the day.
