A View on the Open-Source Video Editing Landscape

Whether it is stitching together some travel footage or producing high-quality film content, there are many ways people want to work with the medium "video". Their needs for #video #editing solutions are diverse, and so is their budget.
Open-source video editing software seems great for beginners to get started at zero cost. What do you get and what do you have to give up on compared to the closed-source options? What does it even take to build software like this from scratch, technologically as well as mentally?
This talk takes a brief look at the free-to-use options for video editing on a desktop computer before switching the perspective to that of the developers and maintainers of such software. It offers insights into the struggles with technology, fundraising, self-motivation, and community dynamics, while also highlighting the rewarding moments and intriguing current and future developments.

Snap Safe
The camera that doesn’t rat you out.
Snap Safe is an #Android #camera app that keeps every pixel—and every byte of data—exactly where it belongs: on YOUR device.
Key Features:
• Zero‑Leak Design – The manifest skips android.permission.INTERNET; nothing leaves your device.
• Fully Encrypted – Shots are written to encrypted, app‑private storage.
• Metadata Scrub‑A‑Dub – EXIF and other identifiers are wiped the instant you hit Share.
• PIN‑Locked Gallery – A separate PIN stands between curious thumbs and your photos.
• Secure Sharing – When you do share, we hand the file off via Android's native share sheet—no detours.
• Granular Location – Add coarse, fine, or zero location data—your call.
• 100% Open Source – Auditable code in plain sight.
• Poison Pill – Set a special PIN, that when entered, appears to work normally but actually deletes your existing
photos.
• Decoy Photos – Select innocuous decoy photos, these will be preserved when your Poison Pill is activated. That way
your Gallery is not suspiciously empty.
Why Snap Safe?
We capture photos locally, encrypt everything in private storage, let YOU decide if GPS tags are added (precision optional), and strip out tell‑tale metadata automatically.
We NEVER phone home or talk to servers, slurp analytics or usage stats, sprinkle ads or trackers in the code, or read files outside our sandbox.
Privacy Policy: We collect nothing.

How to Install GIMP 3.0 Via PPA
The long awaited release of GIMP 3.0 is finally here!
Why install via PPA? Because the update ftom 2.o to 3.0 was 28 MBytes, whereas the flatpack is 1.2GB download, with 3.9 GB of disk space.
This release fixes bugs that could not be fixed in pre-release 2.99 because of GTK2's incompatibility with the newer GTK3 that GIMP 3.0 is built on.
Follow the steps below to install the latest just released GIMP 3.0 version via PPA in Mint and other Ubutu based distros.
TO INSTALL GIMP
TO SWITCH BETWEEN OLDER AND NEWER VERSIONS
1. Get list of available gimp & gimp-data packages
2. Install matching version numbers at same time by using = sign & desired version after package name
For example:
#gimp #gimp30 #photoshop #photoshopreplacement #linux #photography

Attempts To Disable Common Google Analytics And Ads Receivers In All Affected Packages
What it does/How it works:
On 1st run after rebooting after install the module is assuming you want it to disable the listed analytics and ad receivers, so it will:
Wait till boot is completed
Then sleep for 2 minutes
Then test that cpu usage is under 30% before running
It will then disable the analytics and ad receivers as listed below, and log its progress to /sdcard/fixgoogleanalytics.log
Common Analytics And Ad Recievers:
com.google.android.gms.analytics.AnalyticsJobService com.google.android.gms.analytics.CampaignTrackingService com.google.android.gms.measurement.AppMeasurementService com.google.android.gms.measurement.AppMeasurementJobService com.google.android.gms.analytics.AnalyticsReceiver com.google.android.gms.analytics.CampaignTrackingReceiver com.google.android.gms.measurement.AppMeasurementInstallReferrerReceiver com.google.android.gms.measurement.AppMeasurementReceiver com.google.android.gms.measurement.AppMeasurementContentProvider com.crashlytics.android.CrashlyticsInitProvider com.google.android.gms.ads.AdActivity com.google.firebase.iid.FirebaseInstanceIdService
Once complete the service.sh noscript will delete itself
Once that happens any further interaction is purely via the included dga noscript as a binary in /system/(x)bin
dga takes 2 arguments, disable or enable, though i doubt too many will be looking to enable analytics and ad receivers, unless the disabling has unwanted effects on their system, which is high time to include the usual disclaimer that you run this at your own risk and not even dga enable is garaunteed to undo the changes
Module Installation:
Download from Releases
Install the module via #Magisk app/Fox Magisk Module Manager/MRepo

Usage:
After first run optmization has completed, any further interaction is purely via the included dga noscript as a binary

Bt Cotton in India Is a Monumental Catastrophic Failure
Problems
1. The major problem appears to be collusion between the seed companies and the Regulatory and research establishment in India leading to detrimental effects on farmer welfare (e.g., hybrid cotton, GMO Bt hybrid cotton, sub optimal low planting densities, low yields, and suicides due).
2. Hybrid cotton is extremely expensive and unique to India leading to sub optimal planting densities due to high seed costs. Hybrid cotton was implemented with false promises of increased quality and yield, and while fertile, the saved hybrid cotton seed produces highly variable cotton and hence the seed is not replanted. Hybrid cotton in India is an industry value capture mechanism that traps millions of farmers and saves the seed companies from having to pursue intellectual property rights violations in court against millions of small farmers. In contrast, fully fertile open pollinated varieties are grown globally, but farmers replanting save seed makes them liable to expensive litigation that in most cases is not possible in India due to small farm size (value).
3. Before 2002 and the introduction of Bt hybrid cotton, outbreaks of pink bollworm (PBW) and American bollworm (ABW) resulted from industry marketing of insecticides that induced ecological disruption, insecticide resistance, and massive outbreaks of the highly damaging American bollworm. The genetic insertion of Bt genes in hybrid cotton for control of cotton pest was proposed as a solution to ABW and PBW that are native to India. But now hybrid Bt cotton has failed in India for many reasons (below).
4. Pink bollworm is the major pest and resistance to current hybrid Bt constructs is high across India, and insecticide use has increased with associate disruption resulting in still newer induced pests (whitefly, jassids, mites, etc.) and continued low yields. Resistance to Bt toxins in pink bollworm is rampant because the small farm cropping system in India does not allow for refuges for preserving susceptibility to the toxins – refuges are a stop gap mechanism at best designed to delay resistance development.
5. The widespread adoption of hybrid cotton has led to the loss of native cotton varieties adapted to local conditions over hundreds of years.

A Police State Presidency: When ‘Rule of Law’ Becomes ‘Rule by Gunpoint’
Throughout history, despots have used martial imagery to elevate themselves above the people and justify power by force.
Mussolini wrapped himself in the black shirts of his paramilitaries to rally fascist Italy. Hitler’s carefully staged uniforms and parades signaled total control of the German nation. Stalin and Mao surrounded themselves with martial iconography to convey power over life, death, and law.
The message was always the same: I am not just your leader—I am your protector, your executioner, your law.
Today, Trump joins that lineage—not on a battlefield, but in digital space.

U.S. Border Militarization and Foreign Policy: A Symbiotic Relationship
Abstract
U.S. government security along the U.S.-Mexican border has been increasingly militarized. This domestic militarization has been influenced by U.S. government military intervention abroad. Preparing for and executing foreign interventions involves investing in physical and human capital to effectively coerce and control the target population. The U.S. government’s “war on drugs” and “war on terror” created the conditions for this capital to be repurposed for domestic use in border-security efforts. While foreign policy created the conditions for border militarization, border militarization has also influenced foreign interventions. This article explores the symbiotic relationship between U.S. border militarization and foreign policy.

The Corporate Cocoon
The institution is back. It ruled in the ‘50s; it was dethroned in the ‘60s and ‘70s; it idled going into the ‘80s, and then began its return. Now it’s back at the top of the heap and rules from cradle to grave.
