High-tech plans to save polar ice will fail, new research finds
Given the expected change, and the importance of the polar regions for planetary health, some scientists and engineers have proposed technological approaches, known as geoengineering, to soften the blow to the Arctic and Antarctic.
In research published today in Frontiers in Science, my colleagues and I assessed five of the most developed geoengineering concepts being considered for the polar regions. We found none of them should be used in the coming decades. They are extremely unlikely to mitigate the effects of global warming in polar regions, and are likely to have serious adverse and unintended consequences.

Apparently taking a page out of former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte’s drug-war playbook, President Trump is taking credit for the intentional military killings of eleven people in international waters near Venezuela.
Duterte is on trial right now before the International Criminal Court for allegedly ordering his drug-war goons to kill accused drug-war offenders on sight — that is, without arrest, prosecution, trial, and due process of law.
That’s what Trump just did. He ordered his military drug-war goons to blow a boat out of the water that was traveling in international waters near Venezuela, killing, Trump proudly claimed, eleven people in the process.
No stopping of the boat to search it. No arrests. No grand-jury indictments. No trials in federal district court. None of that. On Trump’s orders, his military drug-war goons dutifully, loyally, and obediently fired military projectiles at the boat knowing full well that they would be killing all of the boat’s occupants.

The lack of transparency is not an operational oversight but a strategic necessity for a narrative built on a fiction. If this were a genuine counter-cartel operation, capturing and interrogating the alleged traffickers would have been an intelligence and a public relations victory. Yet, this never happens as the subjects are eliminated, not captured, because a live prisoner could contradict or complicate the US narrative. The entire event must remain a distant, blurry spectacle, a video game-like clip of a “kill”, to excite US population and give a cover for the Hybrid war against Venezuela, for any closer examination would reveal that the targets were likely not the kingpins of their non-existent structured cartel, but perhaps low-level smugglers or entirely unrelated individuals. The US often has employed similar actions to push a narrative framework that justify interventionist policies against a region while using both drug cartels and terrorist organizations like Al Qaeda and ISIS.

It is estimated that less than 15% of the pesticides applied actually reach the pest they are targeting. The rest is dispersed into the environment, contaminating the soil, water and air. This poses significant risks to environmental health, including poisoning non-target organisms, loss of biodiversity and the development of resistance in pests.
Pesticide residues can also enter the food chain through the consumption of crops and water, increasing the risk of diseases in humans. These include neurodegenerative, cardiovascular, endocrine, respiratory, renal and reproductive disorders, as well as cancer.
